Update On Criminal Charges Against Jerry Lawler Inside
Jerry "The King" Lawler continues to receive a lot of media attention for allegedly assaulting manager Sal Corrente at a recent Memphis Wrestling Show. As we reported yesterday, Lawler is pretty much writing off the incident as a joke, claiming its just part of the sport.
"It was just like a little hard punch," Lawler told WMC-TV out of Memphis yesterday. "Sometimes it's part of business. Guys get hit hard...get teeth knocked out...busted open. It just happens, and you show up for work the next day. You don't go have somebody arrested", he continued.
What should be realized about those comments is that Lawler was not even supposed to be involved in the match and the incident occurred with him coming out of no where to strike Corrente while he was trying to get to the locker room. Apparently there was a second altercation in the parking lot. Corrente is complaining of problems with his neck as a result of the incident.
The court date for the charges being brought against Lawler is scheduled for August 1st. However, Mississippi authorities do not cross state lines, so Lawler can not be served with the charges unless he is in the state. Authorities had hoped to serve the charges to him at Memphis Wrestling's event in the state on July 20th, but Lawler is booked for an OVW show that same night in Kentucky.
