Backstage WWE Opinion On The Benoit Steroid Scandal
There are some interesting reports coming out this week regarding how WWE has handled the pushing of two talents in particular stemming from the "steroid" attention in the media the last week over the Chris Benoit tragedy.
After tons of information was revealed about Benoit's relationship with Dr. Phil Astin and the large amount of anabolic steroids he was purchasing every three to four weeks, it's become hard for WWE to deny that Benoit was and had been taking the drug for some time. WWE's Gary Davis stated in an interview with The New York Daily News that wrestlers are not encouraged or forced to use steroids.
As pointed out in a report by The Wrestling Observer, while nobody in the WWE is "forced" to take steroids, they certainly are sending a message of encouraging it based on two wrestlers in particular they pushed this week who have a very unnatural physical look to them. Many people within WWE this week were very surprised to see how much the company put over Batista on last Friday's Smackdown and Bobby Lashley on this past Monday's Raw considering the huge amount of media attention on steroids at the moment. The overwhelming opinion among many in the company on WWE's decision to do this was said to have been a combination of cluelessness and arrogance. So, if you found it interesting to see those two put over a lot on WWE TV in the last week, you weren't alone.
