Benoit's Doctor's Father (Also A Doctor) Committed Suicide

Dr. Phil Astin's father had his license suspended in 1992 after being accused of illegally prescribing painkillers to patients from the late 1970's to 1989. After serving the suspension, Dr. Phil Astin Jr had his license reinstated. He committed suicide by shooting himself in 2005 according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Dr. Phil Astin III, Chris Benoit's personal doctor, was released earlier today on bond after being jailed on 7 indictments accusing him of improperly prescribing pain killers and other controlled substances. The indictments are not related to the Benoit case.

Astin is believed to have had other wrestlers as clients and federal officials have said Astin prescribed massive amounts of steroids to Benoit over the past year. Astin's attorney says he never prescribed steroids to Benoit.
