Edge's Serious Injury, TripleMania Note, PPV Buyrates, More
Prior to his injury, Edge was scheduled for a long title reign as World Heavyweight champion and to be a top star on Smackdown.
TripleMania, promoted by AAA, drew 19,000 fans for a sell out at El Toreo in Naucalpan on 7/15. The show featured Lita performing with her band the Luchagors, as well as Sabu, Ron Killings, Rikishi, and Juvetund Guerrero, among others.
The best selling wrestling DVD in pro wrestling history is the Grandmasters of Wrestling, which are $1 DVDs sold at Wal-Mart stores. As of 12/30, it had sold 426,775 units – 235,666 copies sold in 2005 and 191,109 sold in 2006.
Long time wrestling announcer Bill Mercer is set to release the book "Play-By-Play: Tales from a Sports Broadcasting Insider." Mercer also co-authored a book about the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
WWE received some good PPV numbers for the Judgment Day PPV, which did about 245,000 buys, the best number for a "B" PPV show since last year's Unforgiven. Last year's Judgment Day did 252,000 PPV buys.
