Major Edge Injury/Surgery Update, Kennedy Notes, & More

The New York Daily News reported today that Dr. Claire Godfrey plead guilty yesterday in Albany County District Court to 10 counts of criminal diversion of prescription medicines. According to New York State Department of Health investigator Mark Haskins, Godfrey reportedly wrote illegal prescriptions worth more than $1.3 million for steroids and other similar drugs to patients, including quote "two current WWE professional wrestlers" without ever examining them. The two current WWE wrestlers were not named, but it was noted that neither were the late Chris Benoit. Godfrey's current plea deal will keep her from going to prison, although she could lose her medical license. The article also stated that an outside party would charge "clients" $10,000 to access Godfrey to write prescriptions for patients she never met or examined. Godfrey was paid an estimated $50 per prescription and earned closed to $200,000 over a seven month period. When reached for comment, WWE's Gary Davis had the following to say: "We applaud the efforts of government officials to shut down the illegal use of steroids and those doctors who illegally prescribe them."

WWE's website has an article up about Edge's successful surgery on his torn left pectoral muscle this past weekend in Birmingham, AL with Dr. James Andrews. The article also noted that the injury turned out to be much more serious than previously thought, with Dr. Andrews discovering that Edge had a quote "complete tear of the tendon attaching to the muscle ? right off the bone." "I didn't think that the tear would be as significant as what we found when we went in. Initially, we had thought it was a partial tear, but it turned out to be much more significant ? the injury could have been career-threatening if not properly repaired," said Dr. Andrews. Edge is expected to spend the first four weeks after surgery healing and then an extra three to four months of full recovery.

From Ben: I just watched the Tom Green show and most of it was dominated by prank calls with tasteless Chris Benoit statements and how gay wrestling was. Kennedy was able to maintain his cool and he was really a nice guy. He talked about his first days in WWE and his match with Taker, talking about how surreal it was to have a match with him. He talked about when he got hired by the WWE, said he auditioned for 5 years before he got any feedback from people who were hiring. The interview was decent but nothing groundbreaking. Just a lot of prank and rude calls.
