Chris Jericho was a guest on the "Opie & Anthony" radio show last Friday morning. What started off as a fun and laidback interview eventually boiled down to a very heated confrontation between Jericho and O&A guest host Jim Norton. Norton's brand of comedy is very edgy and he's been known to cross the line from time to time – and this appearance was no exception. When the subject of Jericho's dad playing hockey for New York Rangers came up, Chris mentioned that how he also plays a little hockey and has participated in the Christopher Reeve Celebrity Hockey Benefit for the past 4 years at Madison Square Garden. Reeve, who was a quadriplegic, has been a frequent target of jokes by the O&A gang for years, so Norton chimed in and called the event "the third annual blink-off". Jericho didn't appreciate the joke and immediately told Norton that he went too far. He explained that Reeve was a close friend and that he's got to stick up for his friends. Norton said he didn't realize that Reeve was his friend, but defended himself – saying it was a joke and that everything should be fair game in comedy. It got very tense between the two, but then Jericho loosened up and things seemed to be ok. Norton, however would not let it go and said that he could tell that Jericho was still thinking about it. It got even more heated, when Jericho told Norton that it appeared that his (Norton's) feelings were hurt by some of Jericho's retorts. Opie then explained why Jericho have taken personal offense to Norton's joke – Jericho's mother was a quadriplegic. The show pretty much grinded to a halt. It got so tense between Jericho and Norton that a security guard was brought into the studio to make sure nothing happened between Jericho and Norton. Jericho said he was offended by the security guard, saying he was a professional and would never resort to violence. This back-and-forth between Jericho and Norton went on for at least a half hour. They eventually got a topless girl into the studio to relieve the tension, but overall it was a unique interview to say the least.
