Live Report From SummerSlam

Thanks to Joe Roderick for sending his first hand live report from SummerSlam:

As I sit here at work at 5:30 AM on 30 minutes of sleep (I drove from near Peoria, Illinois to Indy to see that show), I can say that is was well worth the hell I will go through today.

For starters it was a legit sell out . . . looking around you could hardly see any empty seats at all. I don't think the city of Indy did a good job planning for this as the Colts allowed season ticket holders a chance to tour the new stadium so the city was a mad house and there were a few sports bars that were closed that could have made a ton of money.

You could feel the buzz for the Cena/Batista match the entire night. The dark match was great . . . if you want to get a crowd to their feet early, play the Big Show's music, it was crazy.

As far as the show went, I think a lot of people weren't sure what to expect out of the opener with Hardy's injury rumor. I was in the upper level tonight so it was hard to tell that it was Shelton in street clothes running in. Good opener, I would expect a Triple Threat in the future.

The inter gender match was nice. For being a heel, Santino gets a great reaction . . . he might be one of the greatest entertainers on the mic that this company has seen in a while. Expect WWE to ride his wave of popularity.

Another great segment between HBK and Y2J . . . can't wait to see what type of match they are in next. HBK's wife took a legit shot and you could tell she had a fat lip right away, what a trooper.

Really surprised to see Tony Atlas so involved in the match. He took a few nice shots but in all I don't understand why you would give that match 8 seconds. I mean, don't you want people to watch ECW, why make them look like that on a PPV?

Now for the 4 main events . . .

CM Punk gets a lot of Chicago love. It will be interesting to see where his title run goes because he is over huge.

This was the BEST Khali match I have seen. HHH did a great job of making him look decent in the ring. It was nice to see that some one could.

Cena/Batista . . . everything I expected to see in this match and with a lot more. The spot at the end when Cena tried to do something crazy off the ropes and got power bombed was amazing, I was a little suprised that it was a clean win though. It's so weird to see the cut off in supporters in person. I mean everyone under 15 really loves Cena but anyone with a drivers license can't stand him. The guy just keeps going out and putting on great shows. And on another side note, I would love to see one of these wrestlers take a hearing test, I mean I was about as far away from the entrance as possible and my ears were ringing at some of their pyro. I couldn't imagine being 5 feet away. INSANE!

And for the HIAC . . . WOW WOW WOW. I think there were 4 "Holy S***" chants during this match. The cage/spear spot was crazy as was everything else. The match itself might have been one of the top Cell matches of all time. There were obviously ones that were better but this was a lot of fun to watch. My jaw actually dropped several times. The ending was something I have never seen before. The fire at the end was so unexpected. I wonder how they will play this off when Edge returns.
