More On Brock Lesnar's Big UFC 87 Win Last Night, More

As noted earlier here on the site, Brock Lesnar defeated Heath Herring at UFC 87 on Saturday night in Minneapolis, MN at the Target Center. It was Lesnar's third MMA fight and second with the UFC. Lesnar is now 1-1 overall in the UFC (2-1 overall in his MMA career).

Lesnar won the bout 30-26 going all three rounds. Lesnar was able to take out Herring early on in the first round. A majority of the fight saw Lesnar using his strong wrestling background to his advantage, taking down Herring numerous times and working in punches and knees to the body.

He received a superstar reaction in his hometown of Minneapolis. Herring, who is a veteran in the MMA world at heavyweight, did little in terms of offense as Lesnar dominated him through out all three rounds. Lesnar definitely showed more improvement in this fight, but a majority of people pointed out in the arena that he could have problems finishing fights in the future if he keeps up a more conservative "lay and pray" style.

Having witnessed the fight live, Lesnar came across as a big superstar and I was more impressed with his performance the second time around. It would seem that he will show improvement in each of his future fights with the UFC. A lot of people have questioned his striking game and the fact that he was able to drop Herring so quickly definitely spoke volumes. Joe Rogan spoke highly of Lesnar on commentary as well.

Who they will match up Lesnar with next is anyone's guess at this point. Putting him up against Frank Mir and Heath Herring in his first two UFC fights was a big risk for the company, especially if he had lost again last night. This was a solid victory for Lesnar on Saturday night and he has no doubt shown that his fights will be exciting no matter the outcome.
