D-X Note, Major Backstage WWE Change This Week, Swaggers New Theme
WWE returns to Cleveland, Ohio on January 26th, 2009. However, the event will be held at the Wolstein Center, not at the Quicken Loans Arena. The Quicken Loans Arena (formerly known as the Gund Arena) hosted many WWE events between 1995 and 2008, including Summerslam in 1996, the Invasion pay-per-view in 2001 and this year's Unforgiven pay-per-view. Tickets for WWE's first event at the Wolstein Center go on sale December 20th, 2008.
Toys R Us will be giving away a DX action figure two pack to those who pre-order Smackdown vs Raw 09.
Incase you did not notice, Jack Swaggers new theme on ECW this week was the former theme of the recently released Lance Cade. The theme is also a knock off of "Testify" by Rage Against the Machine.
WWE informed all of their announcers this week to refer to talent as "entertainers" instead of wrestlers or even Superstars effective immediately. According to reports, the decision is part of an organized effort towards getting WWE re-classified as an entertainment touring event as opposed to a legitimate sporting event. The hope internally within WWE is that by doing this it will take the power away from the Athletic Commissions in certain states and keep the company from having to pay taxes on their events.
Attorneys representing Scott "Raven" Levy, Mike Sanders and Chris "Kanyon" Klucarits have requested an extension in order to properly respond to WWE's motion to attempt to dismiss their lawsuit against the company's classifcation of wrestlers as "independent contractors" as of October 20. The court has agreed to extend the deadline to November 10.
