Millions Of Homes Set To Lose SpikeTV Tonight?, Burchill To ECW, More
– Paul Burchill and Katie Lea are now officially on the ECW roster. Their WWE.com profiles were switched to the ECW roster. Burchill wrestled on last night's ECW broadcast, losing to D.J. Gabriel.
– While Viacom Inc. and Time Warner Cable have been in negotiations, a recent impasse in those negotiations may cause Viacom Inc. to pull much of their key programming at midnight tonight. Viacom Inc. has been seeking a rate increase of approximately $37 million per year to carry the 20 channels they provide, even going as far as placing TV and print ads, asking Time Warner customers to call Time Warner to support the cause. Viacom is seeking the rate increase to make up for a lack of advertising revenue. If this impasse in negotiations isn't settled, Viacom Inc. will pull its key stations from Time Warner, which are Spike, Nickelodeon, MTV, VH-1, Comedy Central, TV Land and BET. Time Warner provides cable service to approximately 13% of the nation. This could be a lose/lose situation for both Viacom Inc. and Time Warner Cable. Viacom would lose millions in ad revenue, especially since they would be losing so many homes in the New York and Los Angeles market. Time Warner could stand to lose customers, if this were to go long, as they could seek satellite service to regain the lost channels.
