The Big Weekend For John Cena - Can He Deliver?, More
The big day has finally arrived as WWE's Studios's much anticipated 12 Rounds movie starring John Cena opens in theaters today. Unfortunately for Cena and WWE, the flick will face a tough challenge to win the opening weekend as it's slated to open in only 2,321 theaters ? the fewest among the new movie releases this weekend. The Haunting in Connecticut will open in 2,600 theaters whereas DreamWorks's Monsters vs. Aliens opens in 3,500 theaters. In another comparison, The Marine opened in 2,545 theaters during its opening weekend, generating $7,138,774.
In related news, Hollywood's "A-list" will be most surely be out in full force tonight as the red carpet premiere for 12 Rounds is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.
In an interview with ShowbizCafe.com, John Cena said "If everything goes well, we should be shooting from July to September. It's in pre-production. It's another action movie. If it comes back all right, there will not be a girl in jeopardy." For those wondering what the "girl in jeopardy" comment is about, Cena has been criticized because his last two films "The Marine" and now "12 Rounds" feature very similar plots in which Cena fights the bad guys who have taken his woman.
Cena also addressed concerns that he'll pull a Dwayne Johnson and leave the wrestling industry if his movie career takes off. "They should all worry because of what people before me have done. I can say it until I'm blue in the face that I'm not going anywhere; I'll still be on Monday Night Raw. As much as I say it, everyone will worry. I will be the first to be successful on the big screen and keep my dedication to the loyal fans of WWE."
