TNA iMPACT T.V. Report - 7/9
Happy birthday to Kevin Nash. Dude is 50 and is still jacked like a beast. I'm sure we'll see him in action tonight. Working on your birthday sucks.
Show opens with the "struggle for power." Foley is at odds with Jarrett and the Main Event Mafia. But Sting showed up at the end of last week's show, cleaning house and leaving with the belt.
Once again I see the splash screen for Victory Road as we get things underway. Iron Mike Tenay welcomes us to the show and Mick Foley hits the ring. Not much of a pop. I still don't get what is going on with this Foley Angle. It's like when he had three personalities in the WWF. So confusing.
Tenay recaps the recap we saw like three minutes ago.
Foley says he looks like an idiot with two stitches on his nostril. I agree. He doesn't think that TNA should have two people running the show. Foley suggests that one of them should step down tonight.
Jarrett hits the ring and asks Mick if he thinks things out before he says them. Jarrett says that he knows how it feels to want to continue wrestling and the crowd shows Foley a little love. Jarrett goes on to say that no matter what happens at Victory Road, Mick will be a legend, but he needs to start thinking about the future of the company with the young talent they have.
The crowd is very polite, letting everyone speak their peace before cheering. It's like a tennis match. Maybe everyone was influenced by Wimbledon last week.
Foley says that Jarrett is wrong if he thinks he doesn't need to prove everyone wrong. Foley gets a pop mentioning that he's in the iMPACT Zone. Mick's always good for a cheap, town mention. He wants to prove himself against the best wrestler in the world, Kurt Angle and says that maybe Angle needs a warm-up match against Jarrett tonight?
J.J. asks the crowd if they're into it and as you might have expected, they are. He then says he's gonna tweek it and add Mick to the match. The crowd likes that as well. Foley says he wants to tweek it as well and let Angle pick a special guest referee. Jarrett says that's fine, but it can't be matt Morgan or anyone from the Mafia.
We go backstage to Lauren and the British Invasion. Doug Williams says he's is putting the case on the line in a ladder match tonight. How is he deciding who is wrestling for the case? Brutus Magnus says as a unit, they're the best in the world. They hate American wrestling fans and want to take down the tag team division, especially 3D.
Rob Terry is standing in the background and looks like he's trying to hold down his lunch. Or maybe he is flexing and not breathing. Sure, I am not.
Match 1: Homicide vs. Doug Williams (Feast or Fire Case on the line)
We're back from the break and the British Invasion is headed to the ring. Williams has the mic and issues the challenge (again) to anyone for the Feast or Fire case. Homicide, the same guy who won the case originally, hits the ring.
Homicide gets to work and lays some good shots on Williams. He goes for the ladder and tries to climb, but Williams jumps from the ropes and knocks him down. Williams leans the ladder on the ropes and sends Homicide in with the Irish whip. Williams moves the ladder back and goes up for the case. As he gets to the top, Homicide knocks the ladder over and Williams flies out of the ring onto the Invasion. Homicide climbs the ladder and as he gets to the top, Magnus tries to get into the ring, but 3D come to the ring and hold him back. Homicide grabs the case and the gets the win.
Winner: Homicide
Bashir and Kiyoshi hit the ramp and come out to the help the Invasion take care of Brother Ray and Devon. Terry with a slam in the center of the ring. Everyone celebrates the victory. The British are coming, the British are coming!
We see a Mick Foley video package as we head to commercial. Seriously, what is this guy's deal?
After the break, we're joined by Tenay and Don West at ringside. They run down tonight's card for us: Velvet Sky is taking on Tara; The Motor City Machine Guns face Beer Money Inc.; Matt Morgan and Kevin Nash are taking on A.J. Styles and Daniels; And of course the main event, Jarrett vs. Foley vs. Angle with the special guest referee.
Video of Tenay interviewing Suicide. Tenay talks about the lyrics to Suicide's entrance music, which Suicide "wrote." This whole segment is pretty creepy. Suicide says he chose to come alive and that he's the dark savior and that he doesn't represent the end, he represents the beginning. Of me being a little creeped out? Yeah, that you've accomplished.
Bound for Glory promo as we head to commercial.
When we return, Tenay introduces a video package showing the evolution of the Main Event Mafia. After the video, the crowd goes dark and Sting is coming down the ramp to a nice pop! He is Sting after all.
After like 25 years, this guy still gets the crowd going.
Sting's still got the belt with him. He's got a mic and tells Kurt that if he wants the belt, he's gotta come and get it. But right now, Sting says he wants to talk to Samoa Joe.
Tenay sells the tar out of this saying that Joe sold out and screwed over all the fans. West says that at Victory Road, we're gonna find out who Joe's advisor is.
Sting says it's guys like Joe that have ruined wrestling, not willing to work for what they want. He goes on to say that Joe taking the payoff was the wrong move. Sting is up in his mug. I hope, for Joe's sake, that Sting used some mouthwash before hitting the ring. Joe says, luckily for Sting, he's been instructed to keep his temper down and that Sting's time will come. Sting still wants to know who is telling him what to do. Joe says he'll find out at Victory Road but Sting can't wait and says he's going to find him and bring him out for the fans tonight. Pop goes the Stinger.
We're back from the break and Tenay sends it backstage to Lauren with Jenna, who says she's hired Kong to train her for the match with Sharmell.
Cool.
Match No. 2: Motor City Machine Guns vs. Beer Money Inc.
Scott Steiner and Booker T are headed to the ring and are going to be ringside with Iron Mike and Don for the next match.
Motor City Machine Guns get announced and are headed to the ring. Book is saying something, but I don't know what to make of it. All of this is very confusing.
Beer Money gets introduced next and Steiner says they're white trash rednecks. Book is excited for the match. Storm and Sabin start collar and elbow.
Book is doing commentary and it is really annoying. I can't make out what he's saying while trying to watch the action with Tenay and West talking as well.
Storm tries to get the upperhand but can't as Sabin is flipping in and out of holds. Sabin gets sent out of the ring and when Storm comes out, Alex Shelley attacks, flying off the ring apron. Machine Guns are doing some good double teams on storm. Double clothesline and Sabin goes for the pin. Two-count. Storm in the corner and Sabin with a boot to the throat. Double team as Shelley comes off the top rope. As Motor City tries to go for a double clothesline, Rood comes in and knocks his partner out of the ring. Then he hip tosses Storm across the ring so he can tag himself in. Rood comes in and starts to clean house, hitting a dropkick on Sabin and a spine buster on Shelley. Sabin breaks up the pin and the Machine Guns hit a dropkick into a face-buster for a two-count. Superkick by Storm as Beer Money finish off the Guns with the DWI .
Winners: Beer Money Inc.
Backstage, Angelina Love is headed to the ring with the Beautiful People and is whining about the spider incident from last week. Velvet Sky gives her lip about how it's always about Angelina and she's tired of it. If Angelina doesn't have her back, they're done.
Back from a break and we're one week from Sarita, so says Mike Tenay.
Here comes the video package.
Match No. 3 Velvet Sky vs. Tara
Velvet Sky heads to the ring first followed by Tara and the tarantula. Tara starts out with some slaps and gut wrenches on Velvet. Velvet gets a boot up and hits Tara in the head, following up with a bulldog. Some good hair pulling and snap mares.
Sky has a look on her face like someone stole her hairspray.
Tara is on the mat and Velvet goes to pick her up. Tara kicks her in the head and gets in some shots. Whips Velvet into the ropes for a clothesline. Tara sets her up for the Widow's Peak and gets the three-count.
Winner: Tara
She's pulling that freaking spider out again. The crowd wants her to put it on Velvet. Don West is screaming for mercy Angelina has a mic and asks Tara to not put the tarantula on Velvet again, she'll fight her right now. Tara wants the belt to be on the line. Angelina gives in and we're going to see the match when we come back from the break.
I think the crowd may be more interested in Tara putting the tarantula on Sky than the title match we're about to see. Rubes.
Match No. 4: Tara vs. Angelina Love (Knockout Title on the line)
We're back and the knockout title is on the line. Angelina doesn't want to give the belt to the ref. Tara tries for a roll-up on Angelina but can't get the three-count. She goes for a backslide and can't get it. Finally goes for the roll-up, but still can't pin Angelina.
Angelina rolls to the outside. Tara tries to pull her in by the hair. Madison Rayne pulls Tara out of the ring and the ref sends her to the back. Angelina gets some shots on Tara and sends her into the guardrail. Angelina tosses her in the ring and goes for the pin twice and gets a two-count each time. Angelina with some kind of wicked flying boot to Tara's chest. Love goes for the pin three times, but still can't get a three count. Angelina throws a little tantrum and gives some forearm shots to the back ofTara. Love whips Tara into the corner. Tara gets a boot up, knocks Angelina around and hits a tilt a whirl backbreaker. Can't get the three-count, so she hits the Widow's Peak. Three-count, new Knockout Champ.
Winner: Tara
We're backstage with Lauren and Tara after a commercial and Tara is selling this thing like she just won the Presidential election. She thanks her tarantula "Poison." Really?
Tenay is selling us the PPV. Here's the line-up as of today:
Jenna Morasca vs. Sharmell
Matt Morgan vs. Daniels
Steiner and Book vs. Beer Money for the Tag Team belts.
Nash vs. A.J. for the Legends Championship
Sting vs. Samoa Joe
Mick vs. Angle for the Heavyweight Title
We have tape from earlier this week showing Abyss terrorizing Dr. Stevie in his office. But Stevie has drugged Abyss and now Abyss isn't able to move a muscle. Stevie slaps Abyss around a couple of times and then smashes and glass over his head.
Does anyone know where this angle is going?
Match 5: Matt Morgan and Kevin Nash vs. A.J. Styles and Daniels
After the break Matt Morgan is headed to the ring, followed by birthday boy Kevin Nash. They're taking on Daniels and A.J. Styles, who are headed to the ring. Morgan and Daniels start us out. Daniels gets whipped into the ropes and Morgan hits a big shoulder to knock him down. A couple more shots and Morgan goes for an elbow drop. Daniels rolls out and A.J. comes in to double team the Blueprint. A high clothesline by Daniels and a shot to the leg A.J. on the Blueprint. Styles tries to keep Morgan down but can't and Matt throws A.J. into the corner. Tags in Nash who gets some shots in on A.J., until Styles reverses in the corner. Nash gets the upperhand and Daniels and Morgan get tagged in. Morgan hits the Carbon Footprint on Daniels.
Sick.
Morgan tags in Big Sexy who hits some knees on Daniels in the corner.
Nash with a knee? You must be joking.
He tags in Morgan. Back elbows on Daniels in the corner, followed by a splash. Morgan goes for a pin, but can't get the count. Daniels gets to the corner to tag in A.J. after Morgan hits Nash by mistake. A.J. hits a springboard forearm off the ropes and takes the offensive but Morgan reverses and goes for the chokeslam. A.J. flips out of it and hits the Pele kick on Morgan. Daniels hits the BME and A.J. hits a splash off the top rope and gets the pinfall.
Winners: A.J. Styles and Daniels
Nash makes his way back in the ring and hits Styles and Daniels from behind. Nash throws A.J. out of the ring and Morgan choke slams the white off of Daniels. He puts Daniels' leg in a chair and drops his leg on top. Is Daniels leg injured? Could be a storyline people.
We're going to commercial with the main event on the way.
After the break, Lauren is backstage looking for Sting when we see a car drive up. Sting has been hiding under a jacket and approaches the car. Joe comes out from the shadows and attacks Sting, choking him out.
Lauren is crying, but, she's always crying.
Video package for Jarrett.
Main Event: Jeff Jarrett vs. Mick Foley vs. Kurt Angle
Eric Young hits the ramp as the guest ref for the main event. Foley in introduced first, followed by Jarrett (with a nice pop) and finally Angle.
All three are in the ring as we hear the bell. Jarrett and Foley go for Angle. Jarrett with a supplex ? Foley rakes Angle's eyes across the ropes ? Jarrett with the punches on the corner mount ? Foley with some shots to Angle's head. Foley goes off the ropes and hits Jarrett. Kurt off the ropes, Foley hits a back elbow. Foley sends Angle over the top rope, rolls out of the ring and sends Angle into the guard rail. A couple more shots and its into the guardrail again.
Tenay informs us that Styles has accompanied Daniels to the hospital. I told you there was going to be an injury.
Jarrett comes back and nails Foley's head into the steel steps and rolls Angle back into the ring.
We head to a commercial after which we return to Angle stomping on Jarrett in the corner. Angle with a snap suplex on Jarrett and a two-count. Angle with the chin lock on J.J. Mick is still basically knocked out. What is his angle I ask?
Belly to belly by Kurt on JJ. Steiner comes out and hits Foley with a lead pipe. Jarrett mounts some offense and tries for a pin on Angle. Two-count. Angle reverses, and goes for the Angle Slam. Jarrett slides out and hits the Stroke. Young slow counts the pin as Foley comes in to drop the elbow.
I still find it fascinating that Steiner wears that chain mail coif. So bizarre.
Jarrett hits a jawbreaker on Foley and grabs his guitar. Foley puts the mandible claw on J.J. Angle Slam on Foley for a two-count. Jarrett locks Angle up in a figure-four. Young prevents Angle's arm from tapping and when Jarrett breaks the hold to question, Angle puts the ankle lock on Foley and Eric Young calls for the bell when Foley clearly doesn't submit. Jarrett hits a BIG back body drop on Eric Young.
Joe comes down to the ring with the belt he got back from Sting and knocks out J.J. The Mafia heads to the ring with barbed wire and bats. They start to tie up Foley with the barbed wire in the ring. We fade as security is headed to the ring with Angle holding the belt above his head.
Good matches tonight. Morgan beating the snot out of Daniels and A.J. was nice. That dude is a beast. Motor City and Beer Money was a good match too. Still not sure what to make of this whole Foley thing. Until next week.
