TNA iMPACT TV Results - 7/16
Show opens with a Foley, Jarrett, Mafia montage. I love a good montage, like in Team America. We recap last week's main event and Angle walking away with the belt.
"On the Road to Victory"
Tenay promos Victory Road coming up Sunday with Foley on his way to the ring. He's got a match with Angle for the strap at said PPV. Foley's getting a better pop then he did last week. He says he feels naked without the belt and that he's going to win it back this weekend. Foley calls out Angle, who obliges by hitting the ring.
Foley knows the Mafia could have torn him up when he was wrapped in barbed wire. Foley goes so far as saying Angle may be the best all time, which gets a good pop from the crowd surprisingly. He goes on to say that he's not going to tap and that they should fight one on one, no Mafia, no security.
Kurt doesn't think Mick gets it. It's not just about the money, it's about the old guys sticking it to the punks who get more than they deserve.
Sting's music hits and he comes on the ramp. He thinks Angle's full of it and selling a false bill of goods. The Mafia's all about backstabbing and greed. Sting's looking forward to getting his hands on Joe and his handler Sunday, but he wants Mick to give him a match with Angle tonight. Before Mick answers, Kurt says he's in, but it's going to be a cage match. Nice tweek.
Tenay runs down tonight's show:
Samoa Joe vs. Amazing Red
Chris Sabin vs. Suicide
Sarita's debut
A six-man tag match between the Mafia (Steiner, Nash, Book) and Beer Money with A.J. Styles
And the main event, a steel cage match between Sting and Angle
We go backstage and Samoa Joe is already kicking around Amazing Red as we head to commercial.
Match 1: Samoa Joe vs. Amazing Red
We're back from the break and Joe is still beating down Red, this time on the entrance ramp. The ref gets knocked down and calls for the bell to disqualify Joe, who doesn't care and continues to stomp on Red. Security hits the ring and Joe takes off.
Winner: N/A
After a Samoa Joe promo, we find Lauren backstage with Sarita who is taking on another knockout making her debut, Alissa Flash. I wonder who will get the win in this one. The chick who they've been pushing for two months or the one who I just heard mentioned for the first time. Hmmmm.
After a little digging, I find out that Flash is really Raisha Saeed. Maybe this will be better than I expect.
Back from another commercial and we've got a Jenna/Sharmell package, after which we see an interview from earlier in the day in which Don West sits down with Sharmell, Jenna, Awesome Kong, Raisha Saeed and SoJo. The interview basically turns into a shouting match within 30 seconds and soon after, everyone is in each other's face. Kong looks like she will mess up everyone one of these girls. Hell, she might be able to take out Booker T. How is she not a title holder?
Suicide is backstage getting ready for his match with Chris Sabin of the Motor City Machine Guns. It's coming up after the break.
We've got a promo for Bound for Glory as we return and I see Bobby Lashley is in the promo, who announced his official signing on July 15th. Looking forward to his making a return.
J.B. is backstage with Angle and can't understand why he would make a match with Sting in a cage. Angle says he's going to prove he's the icon and the only way to do that is to take out Sting in the cage. If the Mafia wants to take over TNA, they need to win every title at Victory Road.
Match No. 2: Chris Sabin (w/ Alex Shelley) vs. Suicide (Non-title match)
Tenay mentions his interview with Suicide last week, which if you haven't seen, was totally creepy.
Suicide has control to start the match, but Sabin backs Suicide against the ropes and takes the upper hand after some interference by Shelley outside the ring.
Boot to the throat of Suicide in the corner. Sabin goes for the cover and get's a two count after more interference. Suicide gets control after a miscue by Sabin off the ropes. Suicide goes for a pin after a cutter. Two count. Suicide flies over the ropes and hits Shelley. After some more back and forth, Suicide hits the Suicide Solution on Sabin for the pin.
Winner: Suicide
After the match, Shelly spits water in Suicide's eyes and the Guns double team him. Sabin comes off the top rope with a leg drop, while Shelley holds down Suicide down, his head on a chair. Homicide comes out to save Suicide (who is knocked out), but ends up cashing in the Feast or Fire case. Homicide tries for the pin, but Suicide kicks out. Suicide is pretty beat up and after a Gringo Killer, Homicide gets the pin for the belt. Looks like the Machine Guns are making a heel turn.
New X-Division Champ: Homicide
Before we go to break, we see the Beautiful People backstage and Angelina is wearing a bee keeper's outfit. What?
We're back and Lauren is with Homicide backstage. He doesn't care that it may be unfair how he won, that's what the Feast or Fire case is about. Beautiful People on their way to the ring.
Does anyone else think Don West is one eerie dude?
Angelina says that her match last week with Tara wasn't official, bit she'll win the title back at Victory Road. Tara hits the entrance ramp and says that she's got the belt, which means it was official, but they can have a rematch at Victory Road. She goes on to say that she hid her tarantula in the bee keeper's outfit, because really, who wouldn't notice a tarantula in there? As the Beautiful People freak out, Tara runs down to the ring and hits the Window's Peak on Angelina. As we go to commercial, we get a Sarita package. Man, this chick better be the second coming of Bruno Sammartino the way they're pushing her.
Match No. 3 Alissa Flash vs. Sarita
We're back and Alissa Flash is making her way to the ring. She wants to be referred to as the future legend. Tenay is really selling this Sarita chick. Flash gets the upper hand to start, but soon enough, we see Sarita's hi-flying ability that they've been telling us about. Flash isn't a high flier and instead slams Sarita onto the concrete outside the ring. Back in the ring, it's more body slams. Seriously, Flash is man handling Sarita. Of course, it wasn't Flash who got the push, so I'm just waiting for Sarita to make the comeback. I must say, she is taking one hell of a beating. Flash goes for the rollup but Sarita reverses it for the three count. After the match, Flash knocks out Sarita. Might this be the start of something? Hmmm?
Winner: Sarita
We're headed to a commercial.
Lauren is backstage with A.J. Styles after the break and I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I am not a fan of her interviews. She oversells it. Styles wants to pick apart the Mafia and says that at Victory Road, Kevin Nash will be cashing his last paycheck. Mafia is headed to the ring.
Match No. 4: Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner and Booker T (w/Jenna and Sharmell) vs. A.J. Styles and Beer Money Inc.
Biggest pop of the night goes to A.J. Styles, in case you were wondering.
Steiner and Styles start out, with Scotty getting the upper hand. After some shoulder blocks off the ropes, A.J. gets control and tags in Roode. Steiner tags in Nash, who pins and eliminates Styles. The Main Event Mafia is now taking down Roode. Booker T gets tagged in for the first time, but after missing a side kick and getting caught on the ropes, Roode tags in Storm. Steiner hits Storm from behindafter coming in from the outside and gets the pin to eliminate Storm. We're down to Roode and all three members of the Mafia when we come back from a commercial. Tenay also mentions that Jim Cornette has informed him that Jeff Jarrett will be at ringside for the main event.
We're back and Roode is clearing house, until Booker T hits the Book End. Book tags in Steiner who hits a belly to belly for a two count. Nice one finger pin by Scotty. Steiner tags in Nash, who continues the pounding. Somehow, Roode is keeping it together. With the refs back turned, Roode hits Nash below the belt for the pin and the elimination. Scotty comes back in and hits another belly to belly. Steiner goes to drop the elbow, but Roode rolls out of the way.
Nash with a little interference from the outside as Storm is headed out to help Roode. No help though as Matt Morgan hits Storm from behind and sends him into the guard rail.
In the ring, Roode has control over Steiner, but after hitting the Payoff, Sharmell gets on the ring apron to distract the ref. Roode lets go of the hold and gets hit from behind. Booker hits the kick and gets the pin. After the match, Sharmell and Jenna go at each other in the ring as we head to commercial.
Winner: Main Event Mafia
We're back with J.B. backstage telling everyone to follow TNA's Twitter. Twitter is taking over the world people. 3D joins him to discuss the British Invasion. Devon and Brother Ray plan on teaching them a lesson this Sunday at Victory Road. Magnus, Williams and Terry make their way to the interview area and say they've already signed they just signed the contract, but the IWGP tag titles are going to be on the line. 3D says they don't need to wait until Sunday and attack the British Invasion.
After Tenay gives us the lineup for Victory Road, we're backstage with Abyss and Lauren. Abyss says he's a pissed off monster and he's going after Dr. Stevie. Um, Abyss is now sticking thumbtacks into his arm. Someone order this guy a tetanus shot, stat.
Jarrett is making his way to ringside as we head to and come back from the commercial break. Jarrett and Tenay talk about the future of the company as Sting and Angle make their way to the ring.
Match 5: Sting vs. Kurt Angle (Steel cage match)
Some back and forth action as Sting and Angle trade amateur moves. I'm so distracted by Jarrett, especially when he gives West a hard time. We head to the final commercial break and when we come back, Stinger has the upper hand hitting the splash in the corner and goes for the Scorpion Death Drop. Angle shimmys out. Outside the ring, Samoa Joe attacks J.J. at ringside and in the ring, Sting locks on the Scorpion Death Lock. Joe gets the cage unlocked and makes his way inside. The lights go out and we see a Taz promo on the big screen. Lights go on, Joe has the Tazmission on Sting and there is a baton in the ring. Jarrett and Foley try to get in the cage to help Sting, but the Mafia comes out to help take them out. We fade to black.
Good show leading up to the PPV. Looking forward to seeing how things turn out and if the Main Event Mafia will take control of TNA. Until next week!
