TNA iMPACT TV Results (7/23) - Taz Debuts, Lashley Attacks MEM
Welcome back to your weekly TNA iMPACT TV Results.
Victory Road recap to open the show.
Joe's advisor is none other than Taz. If you didn't know, the Main Event Mafia won all of their matches at the PPV. Now the questions begin.
"The Family Reigns Supreme"
The show opens with Taz making his way to the ring. Tenay says all the signs were there. Pretty good pop for the Human Suplex Machine.
Taz says that during his time in ECW, he sustained some career ending injuries. So while he hasn't been able to wrestle, he's spent time calling matches for WWE, which gets some loud boos from the crowd. He turned on TNA one night while at home and was taken back ten years. He saw Samoa Joe and realized the only difference between Joe and Taz was that Joe showed remorse in his matches. Taz says that under his tutelage, Joe went from being friends with everyone backstage to being noticed by everyone else. Taz says that Joe is going to be the next X-Division champion.
It's strange because while everyone hates the Mafia, everything Taz says is getting a great pop from the crowd.
Match 1 ? Samoa Joe vs. Homicide (X-Division Championship on the line.
Joe throws Homicide into the ropes. Arm drag takedown by Homicide. Joe goes for a kick and homicide rolls out of the ring. Suicide dive by Joe misses. Homicide gets in the ring and hits a suicide dive of his own. Back in the ring, Homicide goes for a monkey flip and gets thrown off. Joe with the upper hand. Snap slam on Homicide for a two-count. Abdominal stretch by Joe.
There are many aspects of TNA that I enjoy. The fact that they are turning the Main Event Mafia into the new nWo isn't one of them.
Homicide is holding his own, hits a tornado DDT on Joe, but really, there's no way he wins this match right? T-Bone Tazplex by Joe on Homicide. Joe punches out the ref. Ok, maybe Homicide will win this match. Joe is trying to choke out Homicide, but the ref calls for the bell and DQs Joe. Samoa Joe continues to punish Homicide.
Winner: Homicide
Hernandez's music hits and makes his way to the ring and stares down Joe in the middle of the ring. Taz is trying to calm down Joe and the two of them leave the ring.
J.B. is backstage with Mick, who says he limped his way to the TNA offices in Nashville. He's not sure what's going to happen, but assumes Kurt will shed light on the situation. The Mafia is making their way to the ring as we head to commercial.
We're back and the Main Event Mafia is headed to the ring. Tenay is saying something about Angle being at TNA headquarters this week.
Kurt is on the mic and says that everyone in the back needs to calm down. Nobody is going to get fired. As he's speaking, Booker T is standing in the background posing in some strange fashion. Book gets more and more strange by the week. Angle says if the Mafia was to leave TNA, the losers in the back would steer the Titanic right into the iceberg. The Mafia is ready to put on a good show Kevin Nash and Book/Steiner are ready to put their titles on the line tonight.
Foley's music hits and he's making his way to the ring. Kurt asks how Mick's ankle is. Mick says that he wanted to get away after tapping out at Victory Road. But Mick says for Angle to say that TNA would fall apart without the Mafia is far from the truth.
Angle says that Mick has been pulling the wool over management's eyes for far too long. Kurt has the keys to Mick's office and tonight they're going to wrestle for the office and the power.
Time for a commercial.
We're back and backstage with the British Invasion and Bashir. 10-Man tag match tonight between the British Invasion, Kiyoshi and Bashir vs. Beer Money, Daniels, A.J. Styles and another TNA original.
Nash, Book and Steiner will defend their titles as well.
We'll also see a TNA Knockouts Battle Royal with the winning getting the chance to represent the Main Event Mafia.
Match No. 2 ? Amazing Red vs. Kevin Nash (TNA Legends Championship on the line)
Hmmm. This should be a close one. Nash is about 9-feet taller than Red and outweighs him by a semi-truck.
Nash gives Red the chance at a first shot, which he takes, but soon, Nash sends Red into the corner for the patented Nash knees. Big Sexy flexes for the crowd and then tosses Red across the ring.
I said it before and I will say it again, for a 50-year-old dude, Nash is buff!
Jack knife power bomb by Nash. He goes for a second, but spares Red and goes for the pin instead. Three-count.
Winner: Kevin Nash, as if anyone expected anything different.
Backstage, Lauren is with Hernandez who says that he's got Jarrett and TNA's back since he brought him in when nobody else wanted him. Homicide shows up and the two start to argue as we head to a commercial.
We return and J.B. is backstage telling Mick he doesn't need to go through with this match tonight. Rocco and Sally say they are there for Mick and that they don't agree with what Kurt did at Victory Road.
We cut to Scotty and Book watching a monitor backstage and they say they've found their opponents for the night as we head to a commercial.
Back from the break and Traci Brooks is backstage with Lauren. Traci says she is going to return law and order to TNA.
Book and Scotty are making their way to the ring for their first title defense.
Match 3 ? Booker T and Scott Steiner vs. Big Rocco and Sally Boy (Tag Team belts on the line)
Book and Sally start us off.
My question is, how do I get some chain mail like Steiner wears? Can you wear that out? Is it a hit at parties? I'd say something about this match, but really, we're talking about two legendary tag champs against a couple of jobbers. Repeat after me ? squash match.
In no particular order:
Side kick by Book
Belly to Belly by Scotty
Book end by Booker
Steiner drops the elbow
Outside interference by Sharmell
Three-count
Winners: Scott Steiner and Booker T
J.B. is backstage with Eric Young as they're headed into Mick's office. Borash has a creepy stare much like Don West, only it's a little more weird then creepy.
Young says he was one of the TNA originals and that he has made mistakes the past few months. He wants to make amends and Mick makes him the fifth member of the Originals team in their 10-man tag match tonight.
As we head to commercial, we see the Knockouts headed to the ring for the upcoming Battle Royal.
Recap of Tara and Angelina Love's match from Victory Road as we come back. Lauren is backstage with Tara. The winner of the Battle Royal is going to represent the Main Event Mafia in the Knockouts Division.
Have you heard that Lauren annoys me? Oh, it's true! She can't even pronounce Royal. I think she said Royelle. What does that mean?
Match 4 ? Knockouts Battle Royal
Ok, all the ladies are in the ring and it's chaos. Daffney gets thrown over the top rope in about 10 seconds. Madison Rayne gets tossed over the top rope onto Daffney. A little girl on girl action!
SoJo is the next to get eliminated.
Tara kicks Velvet Sky in the face and Sky is eliminated.
Nash comes down to the ring and we go to a commercial.
During the break, Taylor Wilde and Alyssa Flash got eliminated. Angelina Love goes over the top rope as well.
We're down to Sarita, ODB, Awesome Kong, and Tara. Could it be Tara headed for a heel turn? That would be a nice twist.
Kong eliminates ODB and then eliminates Sarita. Kong tries to put Tara over the top rope, but Traci pushes both of them to the floor, making Traci the winner, even though she was supposed to be refereeing the match. Tara doesn't like it and low blows Slick Johnson.
Winner: Traci Brooks
Traci is on Nash like stink on a monkey. Commercial time.
We're back and Lauren is backstage with the Beautiful People who are complaining about losing in the Battle Royal. Cody Deaner shows up and Velvet Sky knees him in the junk before ODB shows up.
Tenay tells us that the Main Event at Hard Justice is going to be Sting vs. Kurt Angle, but there will be a third opponent. It will be either A.J. Styles or Matt Morgan, the winner determined by a three match series starting next week.
Lauren is backstage and asks A.J. if he heard the news. Styles says it isn't about the title shot, it's about taking back TNA tonight from the Mafia. Commercial time!
The British Invasion, Kiyoshi and Bashir are being introduced as we come back from the break. The TNA Originals are announced second.
Match 5 ? 10-man Tag Match (British Invasion, Kiyoshi and Bashir vs. A.J. Styles, Beer Money Inc. Daniels and Eric Young)
Young and Bashir start things off. I am of the thinking that Eric Young is going to double cross the Originals. Again, this thing is turning into the new nWo. The Originals are taking it to Bashir with quick tags between the group.
After Bashir gets it together, Rob Terry gets tagged in and seriously, this dude is beastly! He looks like he could bench press the entire Main Event Mafia.
While the Originals had the upper hand to start, it's all Invasion at this point. Daniels finally tags in A.J. and it looks like he's going to get a pin, but Eric Young double crosses the Originals and the Invasion gets the win. I told you it was gonna happen.
Winners: The British Invasion, Bashir and Kiyoshi
After a break, we're backstage where all hell has broken loose between the Originals and the Invasion.
Match 6 ? Kurt Angle vs. Mick Foley (Foley's office is on the line)
Foley and Angle are in the ring. I have no interest in this match. First off, I haven't been a big fan of Mick's tenure in TNA. Second, as you may have heard, I'm not into this Mafia storyline since it's turning into nWo 2.0. After a commercial, we're back and Mick has the Mandible Claw on Kurt. After interference b y Samoa Joe, the rest of the Mafia comes to the ring and the ref calls for the bell.
Winner: Mick Foley by DQ
As the Mafia tears apart Foley, music hits and Bobby Lashley is on his way to the ring. It looks like he's part of the Mafia and is about to take it to Mick and finish the job, but he turns around and attacks Kurt! After taking out the entire Mafia, Lashley is left alone in the ring as we fade to black.
Like I said before, I'm not a fan of where all of this is going, but if Bobby Lashley is going to come in and squash this whole thing, then they've got my attention. Until next time.
