UFC 116 News: Lesnar-Heyman, Rock/Austin, Liddell's Future, Dana
– During last night's post-event press conference, Dana White once again addressed the situation with Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell. Some highlights: On dinner with Chuck: "Dinner was great. It's always cool hanging out with my friend, but Chuck's having a hard time with this thing. He told me tonight the show open messed him up ? watching the show open." On Liddell's entourage: "You remember when I was basically smashing everybody around him at the last press conference and calling them cling-ons? Well, I apologize for that. Chuck told me that that's not the case. Their feeling is the same thing. These are guys that care about him and have been around him a long time. They're willing to back him and support him any way he wants ? whatever he wants. They're being friends. I thought people were in his ear because I was hearing rumors. I thought people were in his ear saying, 'You looked good in that last fight right up until you got knocked out, and you can do this and do that.' That's not the [expletive] I want to hear." On his hopes for Liddell's future: "I'm hoping he's going to retire."
– Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Steve Austin were shown in the crowd before the UFC 116 main event, while Jim Ross and Bill Goldberg were shown after the fight.
– Paul Heyman was shown doing his trademark power walk behind Brock Lesnar as Brock walked backstage. After the event, Lesnar made reference to an upcoming book about his life, which Heyman is writing. Heyman was also with Lesnar throughout the weekend.
– At the post-show press conference, UFC President Dana White announced that Lesnar's next title defense will be against undefeated heavyweight Cain Velasquez. No date has been announced, but the fight is expected to take place later this year.
