Wade Barrett Talks About His Quick Rise, Nexus As Babyfaces, Jericho & More

Wade Barrett talked about his quick rise in WWE, working with Chris Jericho and more in a recent interview with SLAM! Sports. Here are some highlights:

On his rise to the top: "It is pretty surreal. I got a bit nervous in the main event at SummerSlam, especially when I saw we were facing a team with many former world champions. But now I'm at the point where I almost expect to be at that level... I went from fighting nobodies to suddenly taking on superstars."

On Nexus becoming babyfaces: "At one time, everybody hated D-Generation X and booed them. But then, later, the fans loved DX. I've never gone out and courted favours. I've never gone out to be booed, either. It's just me being myself. I can see people in The Nexus getting cheered. It's difficult not to like Justin Gabriel when you see him in the ring. He's one of those guys like an Evan Bourne or a Rey Mysterio, a high flyer. Maybe fans will like half of the guys and hate the other half. But at the moment, the fans don't like us too much."

On working with Chris Jericho on NXT: "Look at the top stars, wrestlers like Randy Orton, John Cena and Chris Jericho. They've got the (microphone) skills, the appearance, the ring skills, even the facial expressions.

"One thing (Jericho) talked to me about was that you can't be strong in just one area. It was absolutely a huge deal to work with him. On the last ECW show, when they announced what the pro and rookie pairings would be, I had not idea who I'd be paired with. So I sat at home, like everybody else, watching ECW. I've always been a huge fan. When I looked at the list (of pros), I definitely got the ace in the pack."

Barrett also talks about why Nexus attacked WWE and more. You can check out the full interview by clicking here.
