Austin Sure He Could Do Another Match If Against Punk, Talks Rock Vs. Cena
Steve Austin continues to hint at a return to the ring to face CM Punk. As noted earlier, Austin recently spoke to The Sun and said that he would want his final match to be with Punk.
"I think Punk is a great guy," said Austin. "I'd say he looks up to me for what I did in the ring back in the day ? and I look up to him for what he is doing now. I'd say it's a case of mutual respect.
"I hear the stories and if the stars aligned and all things worked out to benefit us all ? the WWE, myself and Punk ? I'd say that he is the guy I'd pick to face. I'm sure I could get another match out of this carcass of mine."
WWE officials feel that the odds of the match happening at next year's WrestleMania are "less than 50-50," according to a recent report in The Wrestling Observer. Plus, it would be the second match to feature a current top star against a mega-star from the Attitude era, with the Rock slated to face John Cena at that very event.
Austin talked about the upcoming Cena-Rock match, saying that the bout "will be very interesting."
"A year-long build is something no one has ever done so Cena v Rock will be very interesting," said Austin. "Rock is doing his thing in Hollywood so can't make every taping, plus you can't overdo these things.
"WWE are doing their part and keeping it moving along, but there is still a long time until the pay-off."
As for Punk and Austin, the two continue to tease a potential match by trading verbal jabs on Twitter. After last week's Mayweather – Ortiz fight, MVP took to his Twitter and wrote, "Does this mean we get to see the record breaking $ fight now that EVERY 1 WANTS to see?," hinting at a possible Floyd Mayweather Jr. – Manny Pacquiao fight.
CM Punk played off MVP's tweet, writing, "@The305MVP: Does this mean we get to see the record breaking $ fight now that EVERY 1 WANTS to see? @CMPunk vs @steveaustinBSR ?!?!"
Austin took to his Twitter and replied, "never forget Punk...on my worst day, and your best day...SCSA would crumble the very foundation of the SES...with all due respect..."
