Royal Ramble: Wrestlemania 28 Matches
Ten years after Hulk Hogan battled The Rock at Wrestlemania X-8, The Rock will face John Cena in another battle of generations match at Wrestlemania XXVIII. This is the only official match for Wrestlemania, but there have been several other rumored matches that should build up to make a memorable show.
Here are some of my predictions and thoughts on the upcoming event as the new year strikes and Road to Wrestlemania begins.
John Cena vs. The Rock
With over a year of build-up, it almost feels like we've seen this match already. I'm still excited for it and The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan is one of my favorite matches of all time, so I hope this one lives up to that. A lot of this match will rely on the crowd reactions and atmosphere in the arena. No matter who wins, I hope the feud continues past Wrestlemania so both men can eventually go over and provide a bigger payoff for such a big build-up.
CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho
Much like Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels stole the show at Wrestlemania XIX, CM Punk and Chris Jericho can steal the show at Wrestlemania XXVIII. This match could end up being fictional if Jericho does not return, but hopefully he does. CM Punk has had a lot of great mid-card Wrestlemania matches, but a high profile main event with Jericho will make history and provide a lot of great promos between the two.
Triple H vs. The Undertaker
Eh. I'd rather rewatch Wrestlemania X-Seven or last year's event then see these two clash again. Although far-fetched, my ideal match for the Undertaker's 20th Wrestlemania win would be gauntlet match against past opponents that can still wrestle. Triple H could be still included, but it's obvious the Undertaker is going to win anyway, so why not give him a bigger challenge and go up against wrestlers like Mark Henry, The Big Show, Kevin Nash, Batista and Psycho Sid. Wrestlers like Edge, Jimmy Snuka and Jake "The Snake" Roberts could pick representatives to represent them in the ring.
Triple H vs. the resurrected Kane could tell a better story and leave the victor up in the air.
Zack Ryder US Title Match
Assuming he stills holds the championship by the time Wrestlemania rolls around, Zack Ryder will have a huge opportunity for his first true Wrestlemania moment. Hopefully they keep Ryder out of a mixed tag or some sort of lame gimmick match and actually let him wrestle at the event. He needs a high-caliber opponent like Wade Barrett, The Miz, Brodus Clay or even Alberto Del Rio. A triple threat match for the title could include more the WWE roster and make the storyline more interesting.
Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust
I'd be more excited for this match if Goldust wasn't desperately pleading for it on Twitter. Family storylines always make great matches and this is the best way to get Cody high on the Wrestlemania card.
Announcer's in Matches
Just let Jerry Lawyer, Michael Cole and JR talk at Wrestlemania. We could have seen Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus if 10 minutes were trimmed off the announcer fiasco from last year.
Lost in the Mix
It's hard to predict the final Wrestlemania card, but it's already obvious that some superstars could get lost in the mix. The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Sheamus, Christian, R-Truth and Ted DiBiase could find themselves off the card all together. Pairing a couple of them together for some type of tag team match against Air Boom would be good, but they should avoid the pointless 30 second 8-man tag match from last year. No one likes it when the entrances are longer than the matches.
Even the World Heavyweight Championship seems up in the air at this point with Orton out of action and The Big Show rumored to face Shaq. If Daniel Bryan keeps the belt, he needs an opponent that can have a great "wrestling" match reminiscent of Kurt Angle vs. Eddie Guerrero at Wrestlemania XX.
