Zack Ryder Talks His Recent Success, Social Media & Winning The U.S. Title
The Carroll County Times has an interview with Zack Ryder, here are some highlights.
On starting Z! True Long Island Story: "Earlier this year, probably January or so, I looked myself in the mirror and said this career is not where I want it to be... I had nothing to lose; I was on a path to get released. What were they going to do? Fire me? Not put me on TV? I wasn't on TV anyway. My life was going to change one way or the other. I knew I was either going to get fired or get noticed. I got noticed."
WWE and social media: "When I was a kid, I'd write letters to WWE headquarters, hoping I'd get a response. And you never did, you know? They probably never even saw the letters. Now, you have a majority of the WWE Superstars checking their tweets, checking their mentions and sometimes they'll reply or they'll retweet what someone says. It's crazy. The fans get to interact with their heroes."
Wanting to be a wrestler his whole life: "Everyone kind of brushed it off and thought I'd grow out of it, but I never did. I went to college to make my parents happy so they'd pay for my wrestling school and instead of taking notes, I'd draw out wrestling outfits and logos. I have no idea what I'd be doing. I'd be a completely different person with a complete different life."
Winning the U.S. title this Sunday: "If I won the United States Championship Sunday, it would be a perfect end to a storybook, roller coaster year. Starting from nothing and working my way up to being United States Champion, I don't think it gets better than that."
