Beth Phoenix Responds To Chelsea Handler, More On Cyborg's Suspension

Beth Phoenix wrote the following on Twitter yesterday after TV host Chelsea Handler responded to her challenge this week: "I appreciate @chelseahandler being honest about being too scared to accept my invitation.Who wouldnt be? And now, on to perform for my fans! Thank you to the @WWEUniverse for ur undying loyalty to myself and all of my fellow superstars and divas. Ill always give u my best."

Beth also expressed disappointment in former Strikeforce Women's MMA Champion Cyborg Santos testing positive for steroids:

"So disappointed in Cris Cyborg. What a let down to women that looked up to her. #noshortcuts"

As noted earlier, Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos has been fined and suspended by the California State Athletic Commission after testing positive for an anabolic steroid. CSAC officials made the announcement today, suspending Santos for a year and fining her $2,500. Santos tested positive for stanozolol metabolites after a December 17th title defense at Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal.

"Our primary concern is for the health and safety of fighters," said CSAC Executive Officer George Dodd. "Anabolic agents and other banned substances put not only the users of those agents at risk, but their opponents as well. The commission simply will not tolerate their use."

Strikeforce officials have issued a statement about Cristiane Santos' failed drug test, while Dana White had a more definitive response. Strikeforce issued the following statement in regard to Santos' failed test for steroids:

"Strikeforce has not seen the test results regarding Ms. Santos," Coker stated in today's release. "However, we have a consistent and strong stance against any use of performance-enhancing drugs. We also have a long history of supporting effective drug testing of athletes by authorized regulatory bodies. Therefore, we will closely monitor the matter and will work with the California State Athletic Commission regarding any information we may be asked to provide. We also recognize that Ms. Santos has administrative process rights under California law, and we hope that she is not prejudged before she has the opportunity to exercise such rights."

Meanwhile, White said on ESPN 1100 AM Las Vegas' "MMA Insiders" show, "She's getting stripped of the belt." He also suggested that the 145-pound women's division in Strikeforce could be done away with.

Santos has yet to make a comment on the story.
