The Rock Discusses His Career, His Return, Facing John Cena & More
Former WWE champion The Rock recently discussed a plethora of topics with Cleveland.com, including; returning to the ring, his career, taking on John Cena at WrestleMania 28 and wrestling a prime Randy Savage. Here are some of the highlights:
On returning to WWE action: "Now, after having a career in films for over a decade — there's nothing like coming back and performing in the ring because it becomes so alive. ... There's nothing like it."
On taking on John Cena at WrestleMania 28: "Coming back into this world, I felt like I needed something real to sink my teeth into as a performer. [This is] very real. Whatever Cena has said in the past publicly, three or four years ago, I always remembered it. Then, that gave us a nice launching point. It's not personal. I don't personally hate John, I don't hate anybody but the tension is nice and real and I like it. I think it plays well into what we're doing at WrestleMania. People feel that. I don't have to be your friend, I don't want to be your friend. But when we go out there, let's entertain the people.
"But that tension is very palpable and it's nice and real. I've come close a couple of times to slapping the lips off his face. It's OK. I like his lips where they're at for now. [Laughs.]
On having this match in his hometown of Miami, Florida: "It's very special. You know, we could of had the match and it could have been anywhere. It could have been Foxboro Stadium in his backyard. Either way, the goal was to come back and do something special. I wanted to create the biggest match of all time.
"About a year ago, when I was talking to Vince McMahon about that — here's our goal; our goal is to create the biggest match of all time. How do we do that? There's only one guy you can do that with today and that's John. So, he's been a great, great opponent."
The Rock also discussed always wanting to wrestle a prime Randy Savage or Sting at WrestleMania. You can watch the entire video below.
