Christian Explains Why He Went After The Intercontinental Championship

Last night at WWE's Over The Limit, Christian won the "People Power" battle royal and earned a shot at either the US or Intercontinental championship later in the evening.

Christian originally decided to face Santino Marella, the US champion. However, after a backstage incident with Intercontinental champion Cody Rhodes, he switched his pick and faced Rhodes, inevitably winning the title.

In a WWE.com exclusive, Christian explains why he made that decision.

"Yeah. I'm back from a lot of injuries," an in-character Christian stated. "It puts a lot of things in perspective. I went home, I assessed a lot of things and realized that when I left, I was saying that I wanted one more match for the World Heavyweight championship. It got me thinking. As I was watching WWE on TV at home — becoming that fan again — it took me back to when I was a kid.

"When I was a kid, the guy who was Intercontinental champion was the guy who was next in line for the World Heavyweight championship. So, I decided to come back and be that next guy. Win the Intercontinental championship, really bring this title back to prominence and go get one more match," explained Christian.
