Kofi Kingston On How He Became Jamaican, USA Network Hypes RAW 20th Anniversary & Rock
- The USA Network issued a press release for their line-up next week. Here is what they posted for the RAW 20th Anniversary this coming Monday night:
"Celebrate 20 years of roaring WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW action with a special anniversary episode, featuring Dwayne "The Rock®" Johnson. The Superstars and Divas from the World Wrestling Entertainment® Universe take the stage live in front of thousands in attendance at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX and millions watching at home. WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW continues to be the most watched regularly scheduled year-round program on basic cable television and recently celebrated its 1000th episode. RAW Superstars include John Cena, CM Punk, AJ Lee, Daniel Bryan, Kane, The Miz, Eve and Zack Ryder."
- Arda Ocal of theScore Television Network and the Baltimore Sun spoke with Kofi Kingston. During the interview, Kingston discussed RAW's 20th anniversary episode, how special it was being a part of RAW 1000, if he would ever become a heel, the story of how he "lost his Jamaican accent" on RAW and more. Kingston also discussed how his Jamaican character came about and how he was able to keep the same character through the indies and in WWE.
"I trained up in Boston," Kingston said. "At the time, the rumor was, 'if you want to get signed by WWE you have to be a character, they are looking for characters right now.' I didn't really know what that meant at the time, then one of the guys, [ROH referee] Todd Sinclair said to come up with a name and character otherwise I'd get stuck with a silly name."
