This Day In History: WWE Airs Its First Episode Of Monday Night Raw (Video)

For many years, the WWE conducted wrestling shows that were formatted with previous matches inserted with recap and analysis (most notably from Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan) from a command center.

In 1993, WWE TV commenced a revolutionary concept by having episodic programming in front of a live audience. On January 11, the first Monday Night Raw was aired. Over 1000 episodes later, this show continues to be a mainstay in the WWE, conquering the Monday Night Wars battle against the WCW in the late 1990s – early 2000s.

The first episode ended with these results:

- Yokozuna def. Koko B. Ware

- The Steiner Brothers def. The Executioners (Barry Hardy and Duane Gill)

- Intercontinental Championship: Shawn Michaels def. Max Moon

- The Undertaker def. Damien Demento
