"Big Poppa" Gary Spears from KISS-FM (WSKS/WSKU-FM) chatted with WWE Superstar Brodus Clay yesterday, who was promoting the DVD release of No One Lives. Here are some highlights from the interview.
His thoughts on SummerSlam: "As a competitor, I was frustrated to [not] be a part of it. But as a fan, I got a chance, I was up in a box, watching in the Staples Center, and I just have to say, CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan, John Cena, Christian, Alberto Del Rio, those three matches were just ones that will be talked about, I think. It was just amazing. The crowd was off the hook. It was pandemonium. It was just a really, really exciting thing to watch. The only thing better would have been to be a part of it, but the fan in me, which will never go away, just enjoyed it and CM Punk and Brock Lesnar, they just left it all out there."
If SummerSlam had an old school feel to it: "Last night was old school. The guest referee has always been a big part of the history of SummerSlam. Jesse the body, would he count three, would he not? Was he on the payroll, the Million Dollar Man, back in the day? So that main event, Triple H and everything that went down, it just brought you back. It just brought you back and to hear the reaction of the crowd, it was pretty cool."
His thoughts on wrestling's ever changing nature: "It's peaks and valleys and when you're in that valley you really want to get out of it. You have to be patient and you have to be ready. I started the #365toRedemption thing. I've cut weight. I'm training. I'm doing what I need to do and staying the course. When I get my chance, I have to just knock it out of the park. You always want to be in there. You always want to be in the ring. You want the opportunity to have that moment match, to make an impact, and I'm just waiting. I'm chomping at the bit.
"You're 100 percent right, it is frustrating. It's frustrating for anybody who's in any, not just in the WWE, but in any professional sport or even at work. You want that promotion. You're going to do everything you can when they do call on you to be ready. That's kind of where I'm at right now. I'm not going to let the circumstances dictate how I go about doing things. I'm going to dictate the circumstances."
