City Responds To WrestleMania Bid Reports, Releases Official Statement

As noted earlier, The Mercury News recently reported that Santa Clara is a finalist to host WrestleMania in 2015 at the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium, which can hold 75,000 fans. According to the article, Philadelphia is the other competing city, and Santa Clara mayor Jamie Matthews will be flying to WWE headquarters in Connecticut next week to pitch Vince McMahon.

6ABC.com in Philadelphia contacted the Philadelphia Sports Congress about the story, and they issued the following response:

"While it is not our policy to discuss ongoing bid efforts, the Sports Congress and our area partners are in constant dialogue with the WWE about hosting their various major events, including WrestleMania and many others. Philadelphia has a long-standing history of partnering with the WWE in hosting countless events, and we look forward to continuing that partnership moving forward for years to come."
