Dana White Comments On GSP - Johny Hendricks Drug Testing Fiasco, Says Both Men Looking "Stupid"

When it came out that UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and challenger Johny Hendricks had both agreed to undergo independent drug testing ahead of their impending title fight, opponents to the persistent PED (performance enhancing drug) problem marring the sport thought this to be a positive step in quelling the growing issue.

Unfortunately, things fell apart fairly quickly, as Hendricks' camp became uncomfortable once it was revealed that VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) had something resembling a sponsorship with St-Pierre. From there, a complicated and frustrating back-and-forth began between the two camps. The end result is apparently that only St-Pierre will follow through with VADA testing, while Hendricks will comply only with the Nevada State Athletic Commission's testing protocols.

What started as a good step toward applying more stringent testing procedures to the sport ended in standard pre-fight bickering. When asked during a recent Google Hangout with Mike Chiapetta and Adam Hunter whether or not Hendricks came off looking bad for refusing to enroll with VADA, UFC president Dana White said that the squabbling makes both men look bad, and that he wished they would just stick with the NSAC's standard protocols.

"I think it makes them both look stupid," said White. "These guys are gonna get tested by the athletic commission. I just think it's crazy for [St-Pierre] to even do this. He's gonna be tested by the athletic commission. He's gonna get tested by the government. I can't stand when they do this stuff.

"I just think it makes everything cloudy, man. There's a system in place by the government for combat sports and it's just a pain in the ass. They can do whatever they want. They wanna do it, they don't wanna do it — I could care less."

VADA testing or not, St-Pierre and Hendricks are set to fight on November 16 at UFC 167, which will take place at the MGM Grand Arena.
