UFC News: Jon Jones Says A Big Change Is In His "Near Future"
So far during his tenure as a UFC champion, Jon Jones hasn't met a light heavyweight fighter who's been able to threaten his crown. If his current trajectory goes unaltered, it's likely that he'll have to look elsewhere for true challenges. Most assume that Jones will head north to heavyweight to find those challenges and, on a recent edition of UFC Tonight, the champ confirmed that those assumptions hold credence.
"I think it's in my near future," Jones said of the move to heavyweight. "I'm excited about moving up and challenging some of these guys. If Cain [Velasquez] can do what he's done at that weight, I believe I can do it as well. I do things that heavyweights aren't used to seeing."
Before he can try his hand as a heavyweight, Jones will have to get past Alexander Gustafsson, the next challenger to his 205-pound title. Jones and Gustafsson will square off tonight in the main event of UFC 165, which takes place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario.
