Dana On Mayhem - Hall Scuffle, Tito Ortiz Injury Update, Two Titles Fights Set For Super Bowl Show
- Owing to the fact that MMA is still courting public opinion, many UFC fighters that act up outside of the cage are swiftly and severely disciplined by promotional president Dana White. Some of Uriah Hall's fans were worried that The Ultimate Fighter alum would find himself in trouble with the UFC boss after video surfaced of an altercation between himself and Jason "Mayhem" Miller at a BAMMA event last weekend.
According to White's response to one inquiring fan on Twitter, that will hardly be the case. When asked if Hall would be pulled from his planned UFC 168 bout with Chris Leben or suffer any other kind of discipline, White responded, "f*** no!!!I'm gonna give him a bonus!!!"
Aside from Miller's downward spiral bringing negative attention to the sport, the eccentric fighter has had a rocky past with his former boss. Those factors together obviously leave no love lost between he and White. You can check out a video from last year of White discussing his Twitter war with Miller.
- Though many were hoping that former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz's latest injury would prompt him to retire for good, some of the fighter's latest Tweets indicate otherwise.
Ortiz suffered a neck injury that forced him out of a planned Bellator pay-per-view bout against fellow former UFC champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, but the 38-year old is determined to recover and get back in the cage.
"Ppl I will have 100% recovery & will be back n the gym in 6 weeks," Ortiz posted. "I'm a fighter & I love competition. I was doing great n training but accident do happen. Just time to reshuffle the deck & deal another hand.#positiveminded"
Tito also passed along his doctor's prognosis.
"CT scan showed a right C6 pillar fracture. By going through a high impact fight as he is scheduled for would put him at high risk for a spinal cord injury. It does appear that he is going to go onto full and complete healing 6-8 weeks. -Dr. William Smith, M.D."
- The UFC has announced two anticipated title fights, both of which will take place at UFC 169, scheduled for February 1 in Newark, New Jersey.
Featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo will be taking on Ricardo Lamas, while bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz will be returning from a long injury layoff to battle dominant interim champ Renan Barao.
The card will also sport a heavyweight tilt between Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem.
