UFC News: Jake Shields Says Maia Fight Tougher Than GSP, Highlights, Dana White Rips Fighter's Diet

- Last night at UFC Fight Night 29, Jake Shields earned a split decision win over Demian Maia. You can watch highlights from the fight in the video above. Since dropping to welterweight, Maia had been on a tear, picking up wins over some of the division's best. Shields' victory over the Brazilian was hard fought, owing both to Maia's formidable skill and the hostile Brazilian crowd. The bout was so difficult, Shields said in a post-fight interview that it was harder than his five-round decision loss to longtime welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

"I lost the fight to GSP, but tonight was so much grappling and scrambling — it was exhausting," said Shields. "The Brazilian fans are so hostile, it makes it tougher. Tough fight, but luckily I got through."

The win over Maia puts Shields at 3-0, with one No Contest since his loss to St-Pierre.

UFC president Dana White was not at all amused, and cracked a joke at the Brazilian's expense over Twitter. He tweeted:
