UFC News: Jon Jones - Teixeira Off UFC 169, Another Title Fight Official, Photo Of Bisping's Injury
- The UFC appears to have jumped the gun by announcing that light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his title against Glover Teixeira at the promotion's Super Bowl weekend card in New Jersey (UFC 169). Though Jones and Teixeira are still slated to fight one another, the bout will now be taking place next year. UFC president Dana White revealed the news to media members via conference call, and also said that Alexander Gustafsson will be next in line for a shot at the belt — provided he and Jones win their next fights.
- The UFC has announced that promotional flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson will be taking on Joseph Benavidez in a rematch for his next title defense. The two 125-pounders are expected to face off at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale, which is set for November 30. Johnson and Benavidez first met in the cage at UFC 152 in September of last year, with Johnson taking a narrow split decision over Benavidez. Since then, Johnson has defended his belt twice (over John Dodson and John Moraga), while Benavidez has put together a three-fight streak with victories over Ian McCall, Darren Uyenoyama and Jussier Formiga.
- UFC middleweight fighter Michael Bisping was recently forced out of a planned bout against Mark Munoz later this month with an eye injury. The Count was replaced in the UFC Fight Night 30 card by debuting middleweight Lyoto Machida. There is currently no estimate for Bisping's return, but he updated fans to the status of the injury by posting a picture to Instagram.
