Dana White Says GSP - Hendricks Rematch Almost Set, Responds To TMZ - GSP Rumors
Predictably, speculation began immediately and proceeded wildly when Georges St-Pierre vaguely retired following an inconclusive victory over Johny Hendricks.
After winning a decision that is still being hotly contested, St-Pierre told the crowd at the MGM Grand that he was going to hang up his gloves, "at least for now." The longtime welterweight champion would only cite personal issues for needing time away from the sport, leaving others to fill in the blanks. One rumor that emerged in the fallout was started by celebrity gossip site TMZ, who reported that St-Pierre's issues were related to an unplanned pregnancy and his father being sick.
UFC president Dana White told the LA Times that he's been in contact with St-Pierre, who is denying those specific rumors. Though White wouldn't give any more detail regarding St-Pierre's actual issues, he seemed confident that they aren't bad enough to keep him from returning to the cage.
White was visibly angry with St-Pierre's choice to take time off at the post-fight press conference. Given time to calm down and speak with St-Pierre, he's relaxed — likely because he seems confident the champion will not only return to action, but that he'll do so soon, and in a rematch against Hendricks.
"As far as a rematch, we're on schedule and I'll have a date within a couple weeks," White said. "I feel confident that Georges is fine with that and all is on track."
White told the LA Times that St-Pierre is not only unavailable for comment, but that he's going on vacation "off the grid."
