WWE Denies City Made A Bid For WrestleMania 31
As noted earlier, the city of Philadelphia was reportedly very close to hosting WrestleMania 31, which ended up going to Santa Clara. WWE issued a statement to ABC 6 in Philadelphia stating that the city never submitted a formal offer.
"While Philadelphia expressed a great interest in hosting WrestleMania in 2015 and 2016, the fact is the city did not submit a formal proposal because the facilities necessary to host ancillary events weren't available," the statement read. "Philadelphia remains a strong market for WWE in all aspects of our business."
Philadelphia Sports Congress Executive Director Larry Needle said that the dates for both WrestleMania 31 and 32 were not available, which resulted in no bids being made.
"It was quickly obvious that we did not have the availability [at those venues]. The dates did not line up," Needle said.
