Pro Wrestling Booker George Scott Passes Away At Age 84

SLAM Wrestling reports that former wrestler and booker George Scott died of lung cancer on Monday at the age of 84.

"He held on right to the end," said Scott's brother, Walter. "He'd be the first one to tell you he had a great life."

Scott is best know for booking the Mid-Atlantic territory in the '70s and WWF in 1983 when Vince McMahon took the company national. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer noted that Scott booked angles and matches for nearly 1,000 house shows, but was fired after he had a falling out with Hulk Hogan. He booked WCW for a short period in 1989, which was his last run on the national stage.

Since retiring from the business, he had been living with his wife Jean, who he married in 1986, in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. She told SLAM! Wrestling that they found out about his lung cancer in November of 2011, and that he had been under hospice care since last October.

"He was just tired, beat up and tired," said Jean. "As I told everybody, every day he'd say, 'Am I going to die today?' because he was in a lot of pain. And I'd say, 'No, apparently not. God doesn't need a wrestler.' Well, he needed one last night, and he got one."
