Daniel Cormier Ready For Light Heavyweight Title Shot After Quick UFC 170 Win

Just 10 days ago, Daniel Cormier had no opponent for UFC 170 as Rashad Evans went down with an injury. The UFC kept Cormier on the card after Pat Cummins accepted the fight. Cummins then spilled the beans about how he made Cormier cry during their Olympic training days.

Cormier wasn't amused and said Cummins broke the code of wrestling. He made Cummins pay by finishing their co-main event fight in 79 seconds. Post-fight, Cormier didn't have any regrets and even gave Cummins a little bit of credit.

"It had to happen this way," said Cormier. "It could not go the distance. Pat Cummins has a bright future in the UFC."

The fight was Cormier's light heavyweight debut and he remains undefeated with 14 wins. For his next move, the former Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix winner said he wants a chance at the division's gold. Champion Jon Jones is set to defend the belt at UFC 172 in April against Glover Teixeira. Should any injuries occur, Cormier wants a crack at the light heavyweight title.

"I fight right at the top," said Cormier. "If either guy gets hurt, insert me in that lineup."

Cormier picked up his first UFC stoppage with the win over Cummins. The defeat makes Cummins 4-1, in what was his UFC debut.
