Ronda Rousey Gains First Non-Armbar Victory, Remains Bantamweight Champ

Ronda Rousey is still undefeated and remains in possession of the UFC women's bantamweight championship. For the first time in her professional MMA career, Rousey didn't require the armbar to secure the victory

UFC 170 was headlined with Rousey using a knee to the liver against Sara McMann at just over a minute into their championship fight.

"We studied her videos and felt like it was best to concentrate on the liver shot for this camp," said Rousey. "The left knee has been working for me the most."

The crowd was split on referee Herb Dean's decision to stop the contest, but McMann wasn't complaining about the call.

"I was trying to get back up, but that is my own fault," said McMann. "[The referee] sees a fighter drop, they have to protect us. I should have got to my feet faster."

Rousey is 9-0 with three wins out of the UFC and earned an extra $50,000 bonus for Performance of the Night. She had submitted Liz Carmouche and Miesha Tate since the belt was promoted to the UFC ranks. McMann goes to 7-1 and she tasted defeat for the first time.

The two females made history as they were the first pair of Olympic medalists to compete against one another under the UFC banner. Full UFC 170 results are here.
