Alistair Overeem's Next Possible Fight, Full Video Of Cyborg's Loss, Ronda Rousey Court Battle
- Former Strikeforce female champion Cris Cyborg suffered her first loss since a 2009 defeat in submission grappling, dropping a kickboxing bout to Jorina Baars in the co-main event of Lion Fight 14. The defeat cost Cyborg a chance at becoming the promotions champion, as Baars scored a decision victory.
Cyborg remains on a 12-fight unbeaten streak in MMA, having not lost inside that arena since a submission defeat to Erica Paes. You can see the complete fight replay between Cyborg and Baars in the video above, a bout many are considering an early "Fight of the Year" candidate.
As for Cyborg in MMA, she is expected to continue her move down to bantamweight for a possible debut with the UFC and a meeting with Ronda Rousey in the future. Reports are circulating that she will compete once more for Invicta FC, an all-female promotion, later this year.
- A meeting of former champions and fighting legends in Japan could be on the horizon inside the Octagon, as Alistair Overeem and Josh Barnett both appear interested in squaring off. Overeem appeared on Submission Radio recently and stated his desire to face Barnett.
"I believe Josh is ranked one place better than me," Overeem said. "I also think the fight with Josh would be nice considering his long Japanese history, as well as mine."
Overeem is coming off a recent decision victory over Frank Mir. He was offered a fight with Junior dos Santos, but turned it down citing nagging injuries. Barnett would be looking to rebound from a defeat to Travis Browne, and replied to the notion of facing Overeem by simply stating "Sweet" on his Twitter page.
- Ronda Rousey hasn't had much trouble when it comes to dominating her sport, as she continues to stand supreme over the rest of the UFC's female bantamweight division. That doesn't mean, though, that Rousey is ruling outside of the Octagon.
According to a recent report by MMAjunkie.com, "Rowdy" was called to the courts to settle a dispute between herself and Fight Tribe Management, a firm saying that Rousey broke a contract between them. The California Athletic Commission recently held a meeting to hear all sides, but Rousey's attorney believes it could be a while before things are settled.
Rousey is currently filming scenes for her part in the upcoming "Entourage" movie, while also continuing to train. She has stated plans to return to action in late summer.
