GSP Picks Johny Hendricks - Robbie Lawler Winner, Cruz Back In The Gym, Countdown To UFC 171
- Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz is back training in the gym, as seen above via Inside MMA, following a groin injury that forced him to pull out of his scheduled return to MMA at UFC 169 in February against interim UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barão. Cruz was forced to vacate his title as he had been on the shelf for over two years prior to the groin injury with a torn ACL. No word yet on when he will be returning to action.
- Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre, who vacated the title in December to take a break from MMA, gave his thoughts on who is going to walk out of UFC 171 this Saturday with the vacant Welterweight Championship, Johny Hendricks or Robbie Lawler. He had good things to say about Hendricks, who he earned a controversial unanimous decision victory against in their last fight at UFC 167.
"They both have a lot of punching power and could knock you out, so you never know when there is that kind of power what will happen," GSP told Yahoo! Sports. "If Johny catches him right on the chin with a good one, he could knock him out. But you know what? Robbie has a lot of power, too, and if he hits Johny right on the chin, it is the same result.
"But if I was forced to pick it, I would take Johny to win. He has the wrestling and grappling ability, and I think at the end of the day, that will be the difference."
