Gina Carano Ready For MMA Return, UFC Releases Former Title Contender, Dana White - Muhammad Ali
- Gina Carano is ready to make a return to MMA. Carano appeared on a recent edition of "The Arsenio Hall Show" and confirmed plans to meet with UFC president Dana White soon to discuss competing for the promotion.
"I love (fighting)," Carano said. "It's something I can do that makes everything else disappear. I dream about it. Either I will (make a comeback) now or retire. Now is the moment."
Carano (7-1) left MMA in 2009 after a loss to Cris "Cyborg" Justino and entered into an acting career. She has appeared in several major-motion pictures, including "Fast and Furious 6" and as the lead in both "Haywire" and "In the Blood."
Rumors of Carano's impending return have floated around for months now. Hear what else she had to say in the video above.
- Jake Shields proved the theory of win-or-go-home correct, as the UFC released the one-time title contender Monday. News of the decision was first reported by MMAFighting.com.
Back in 2011, Shields fought then-UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre to a decision. He was unsuccessful in becoming champion, and also dropped a bout to Jake Ellenberger. However, Shields only recently picked up decisions over both Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia. In his latest fight, though, he was topped by Hector Lombard, dropping him to 4-3 with one no-contest in the UFC and 29-7-1 overall.
"Jake and our team are already exploring options," said Lex McMahon, manager for Shields. "I'm confident that Jake will have a new promotion to call home very soon."
- UFC president Dana White had a cool experience on Twitter recently, as former boxing great Muhammad Ali interacted with him. The personal account for Ali asked if he was the "original MMA fighter?" posting a picture of him in action against Antonio Inoki from years ago.
White responded with, "U sir are the original EVERYTHING! Ur the reason combat sports is where it is 2day."
What you think @DanaWhite? Muhammad Ali – the original #MMA fighter? @ufc pic.twitter.com/V5kVdkzEzt
