- UFC president Dana White didn't think twice when asked following UFC 172 if the rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson could take place overseas in Europe later this year. Jones successfully defended his light heavyweight title over Glover Teixeira Saturday night with a decision victory.
Jones and Gustafsson fought to a five-round decision last year, with "Bones" earning the victory. The MMA public pushed for an immediate rematch, but both the UFC and Jones went with Teixeira first. Gustafsson went on to defeat Jimi Manuwa earlier this year to secure his status as the No. 1 contender.
Being a native of Sweden, White was asked if the second meeting could take place in Europe during the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show. You can hear the complete interview in the video above.
"If we did that fight in Europe, it would be awesome," White said. "I have no clue when it'll happen. I'm looking forward to (the fight)."
During his post-fight media scrum, White detailed that if the UFC put the championship match on in Europe, it would begin around 4 a.m. local time to be able to air in prime time in the U.S.
- Four fighters "officially" walked away with bonus checks from UFC 172 Saturday night, but Dana White made sure to mention that many more will be picking up bonuses for their efforts. The card took place from Baltimore and the Baltimore Arena, with Jon Jones defending his light heavyweight title over Glover Teixeira in the main event.
Takanori Gomi and Isaac Vallie-Flagg, who competed on the FOX Sports 1 prelims, scored the "Fight of the Night." Joseph Benavidez and Chris Beal, who each earned prelim finishes, were given "Performance of the Night" honors. All four scored an additional $50,000.
During the post-fight press conference when he announced the bonuses, White said, "I will be writing other checks for this card." The event featured numerous knockouts and submissions.
The live gate was released at $2.3 million, falling just short of setting a new arena record, which is held by a Rolling Stones concert. The attendance was announced at 13,485. You can read complete results of the event by clicking here.
