Jon Jones Picks Ronda Rousey Vs. Mayweather, UFC 172 Live Coverage Tonight, Fighter Suspended
- UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has an interesting take on the much-talked-about Ronda Rousey-Floyd Mayweather contest. Dana White has discussed it, as have Joe Rogan. Now, "Bones" is chiming in on how he feels the bout might go.
"In an MMA match, sorry Floyd, but I have to give this one to Ronda," said Jones, while appearing on a recent episode of Crowd Goes Wild, which you can watch in the video above. "I have to keep it real. Their weight is fairly similar. Ronda has competed at the highest level, the Olympics. If you are on the ground against someone who's never trained it, it's like drowning. I don't think Floyd would handle it very well."
Rousey, an unbeaten MMA fighter and the current UFC female bantamweight champion, is a former bronze medalist in Judo from the Summer Olympics. Mayweather is undefeated inside the boxing ring and a current champion.
- UFC fighter Dennis Siver has been suspended for nine months and fined almost $20,000 for a failed post-fight drug test following his 2013 fight with Manny Gamburyan. Siver stood in front of the Nevada Athletic Commission earlier this week to try and plead his case, but the board ruled against him.
Siver was found to have human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in his system. The fighter stated that he was given the drug by a new trainer and did not know it was a banned substance. He also claimed to have only taken drops of the substance and not have it injected.
The 35-year-old Russian moved to the featherweight division in 2012 and has posted a 2-1 record with the one no-contest. Siver has fought for the UFC since 2007.
