WWE SmackDown Review: Thumbs Up Or Down On Cesaro Being A Paul Heyman Guy?

The aftermath of WrestleMania XXX continued with this episode of SmackDown hosted from Lafayette, Louisiana. Although Daniel Bryan defeated a total of three former world champions in Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, all three are looking for some retribution, and to extinguish the "YES!" movement. However, Daniel Bryan has some new found backup in the Shield, so the objective is a bit more difficult for the former members of Evolution. In the main event, Daniel Bryan and the Usos battled Kane, Randy Orton and Batista to a double countout, which also led to interference by the Shield.

We also saw Rybaxel finally pick up a win by defeating Los Matadores, Rob Van Dam make Damien Sandow look even more like a joke, Bad News Barrett continue his in-ring push by defeating Kofi Kingston, and Fandango introduce an actual professional dancer as his new valet in Layla. Oh yeah, and John Cena.

The focus of this review, though, will be on Cesaro's newest career move in joining the managerial services of Paul Heyman. There is no doubt that Cesaro is one of the most popular superstars in the WWE right now. The cheers cannot be overheard, and winning the Andre the Giant Memorial battle royal was a sign of the WWE responding to the crown reactions.

However, why in the world would he be aligned with Paul Heyman? Yes, the guy who accompanied Brock Lesnar as he performed the most shocking moment in WrestleMania history. Yes, the one who exudes "heel." Yes, the guy who will be back with Brock Lesnar when he returns. The only glimpse of promise to this is a future match between Cesaro and Lesnar at SummerSlam. Until then, it will be quite confusing.

Cheering Cesaro, while booing Heyman, will happen most likely every time Heyman grabs a mic, since he is a natural-born heel promo-cutter. If it was about having a mouthpiece, Zeb Colter should have stayed with Cesaro. Unfortunately, Cesaro's popularity has made Jack Swagger go back to his state of being an afterthought, even with Colter with him.

Cesaro's push is well-deserved. He is an excellent wrestler, and has beastly power. I am still waiting for a Cesaro Swing on the Big Show to check off my small bucket list of things I wish to see in the near WWE future. Show putting Cesaro over would help propel his career even more, which is why a match between the two at Extreme Rules wouldn't be bad; but, Cesaro being a heel is starting to make less and less sense, so Big Show should be one of his last feuds as a heel before turning on Heyman and feuding with Lesnar.

Now it's chime-in time: Thumbs Up Or Thumbs Down On Cesaro being a Paul Heyman guy? Sound off below.

Side note: the segment between Daniel Bryan and Hulk Hogan was one of the best in the history of SmackDown. It was a true-to-life moment of Daniel Bryan shamelessly admitting to be a Hogan mark, which I can appreciate from someone who is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. It really shows how Bryan's heart pumps pro wrestling, and how he was a fan as a kid just like the rest of us.
