Former UFC Champion Booked, UFC 178 "Embedded" Video, New Fights Announced
- In the latest episode of "UFC 178: Embedded," several fighters stop by the scale to check their weight ahead of Friday's official weigh-ins. In the video, which you can see above, UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger Chris Cariaso appear to be right around the same weight.
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier also step on the scale, followed by a brief and intense staredown from across a room. Wrestling Inc. will have complete coverage of UFC 178 Saturday.
- Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will return to the Octagon in November, meeting Cub Swanson in the main event of UFC Fight Night 57. The event takes place November 22 from Austin, Texas and is expected to air on FOX Sports 1.
Edgar (17-4-1) downed BJ Penn for a third time earlier this year, while Swanson (21-5) picked up his sixth straight win by defeating Jeremy Stephens.
The co-main event was also announced by officials recently, as lightweights Edson Barboza (14-2) and Bobby Green (23-5) square off. Other previously confirmed fights include Joseph Benavidez-Dustin Ortiz and Paige VanZant-Kailin Curran.
- UFC officials were busy matchmakers recently, tabbing several bouts for upcoming pay-per-view cards. At UFC 180, Leslie Smith will meet Jessica Eye in a female bantamweight battle, while UFC 181 has received a pair of former Ultimate Fighter winners.
UFC 180 takes place November 15 and boasts a main event between heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum. Smith (7-5-1) earned a win inside the Octagon when he stopped Jessamyn Duke, while Eye (10-2) was defeated by Alexis Davis.
The new additions to the December 6 UFC 181 card include Eddie Gordon vs. Josh Samman and Tony Ferguson vs. Abel Trujillo. Gordon (7-1) won The Ultimate Fighter 19, while Samman (10-2) competed on Season 17 of the reality series.
Ferguson (16-3) is also a former TUF winner and is coming off a split decision win over Danny Castillo. Trujillo (12-5) is 2-0 with one no-contest in his last three.
