Triple H Talks Meeting With Vince McMahon That Might Have Sparked The Attitude Era

During his recent appearance on Talk is Jericho, Triple H talked about the watershed meeting that launched the Attitude Era back in the mid-1990s. He recalled that Vince and Jerry Briscoe flew to Indianapolis to meet with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall who had grown disgruntled with the present situation within WWF.

"I remember (Vince) saying, 'Clearly the company needs a change of direction and momentum and I want opinions,'" he said.

Triple H said that he had only intended to pay a personal visit to Vince on the day of the meeting and that he tried to leave when Briscoe, Nash and Hall arrived in Vince's hotel room to discuss business issues.

"I started to go out the door and Vince said, 'Hey, where are you going?' and I said, 'This is not my place. I'm going to go?' and Vince was like, "No, no, no?You're in it now. Get in here.'"

He continued by stating that Vince distributed copies of the WWF roster to the men in the meeting and asked, "If it were your team?all of you individually make your own, I don't want anybody looking at anyone else's paper?what would your team be and what do you think is wrong with the product? Not saying that we're going to do it; I just want to know what everybody thinks."

Triple H cited Bam Bam Bigelow as someone who was at that time particularly vocal and negative about his personal issues with other people, implying that Bigelow repeatedly attempted to gain some degree of political influence backstage, adding that despite this, everyone at the meeting thought highly of Bam Bam and listed him as a key player in the business.

"In my mind? the first spark of the Attitude Era that I ever saw was in that room. Because the conversation?was based on reality. 'Why do we have Doink the Clown? Basketball players just wear basketball uniforms? Why can't we just be wrestlers? Why do we have to be firemen or cops or doctors? What can't it be just be more real? Let's stop insulting intelligence and get rid of the camp.' And Vince was really into the conversation."
