WWE Spending Lots Of Money To Expand In India
The Hindu Business Line reports that WWE and Ten Sports will invest just over $100 million in the Indian sporting-related entertainment market. Ten Sports CEO Rakesh Sethi and WWE India General Manager Rukn Kizilbash wouldn't give specifics of the deal but Kizilbash said they are committed to the Indian market is making a good amount of investment.
The money invested is being used to bring in new technology that will reduce the gap between WWE's TV shows in the US and Indian markets. It will also be used to organize more live events in the country and launch a WWE line of merchandise for kids and adults in India.
Ten Sports, which has the exclusive rights for WWE TV in India, has extended their TV distribution agreement for five more years through 2019.
In addition to the continued broadcasts of WWE RAW, SmackDown, NXT and monthly pay-per-view events, starting January 1st, Ten Sports will debut a new one-hour fully customized version of RAW that is tailored specifically for the Indian audience. WWE Main Event will also be added to the line-up.
Ten Sports will also air WWE content in multiple Indian languages for the first time and bring WWE live events back to India in 2015, Sethi confirmed.
