Anderson Silva's New UFC Contract, Randy Couture As Chuck Liddell, No Title Shot For Conor McGregor
- Any notion of Anderson Silva competing for a promotion without the initials "UFC" were put to rest by "The Spider" in a recent interview with Combate. The former UFC middleweight champion announced that he has signed a new 15-fight contract, which replaces the eight-fight deal he completed prior to a December meeting with Chris Weidman.
"I had seven fights on my contract," Silva said. "I met (UFC executives) Lorenzo (Fertitta) and Dana (White) on Thursday, and that contract was canceled. We signed for another 15 fights. To make Dana crazy, I signed for 15 more fights. And to make my family crazy too."
Silva (33-6) will return to the Octagon in January, meeting Nick Diaz in the main event of UFC 183 from Las Vegas.
- Cub Swanson is taking a little issue with reports that Conor McGregor could be the next man to challenge UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo for the title.
Swanson's currently scheduled to meet Frankie Edgar at the end of November at UFC Fight Night 57, putting his six-fight win streak on the line. Swanson (21-5) took to Twitter to clarify what is at stake – at least for him – in Austin, Texas on that night.
"The UFC has assured me the next shot at Aldo," Swanson wrote. "As long as I win my fight against Edgar."
UFC president Dana White mentioned McGregor – if he beats Dennis Siver in January – as a possibility for Aldo in 2015.
- Former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Randy Couture took on the look of a fellow UFC Hall of Famer this weekend, and it wasn't for a movie role. Couture dressed as Chuck Liddell for Halloween, complete with mohawk, head tattoos and shorts.
Couture fought Liddell three times inside the Octagon, going 1-2. He won the first meeting in 2003 via second round TKO before losing in '05 and '06 – both times via knockout.
