WWE Superstars Recap: Zack Ryder Picks Up Noteworthy Win, Funkadactyls In Main Event
This week's show starts with WWE's standard opening package and the Superstars theme. Once the formalities subside, it's time for in-ring action.
Zack Ryder vs. Heath Slater
Ryder emerges to a warm reception from the crowd and then Slater comes out and does his thing, too. Each of these men is something of a dichotomy?an odd combination of frequent jobber and sentimental fan favorite at the same time. In that respect, it's an intriguing matchup. Zack gets the upper hand on Slater first with some grappling but Slater heels it up with a kick to the gut and then follows up with some taunting. Ryder comes back quickly and regains control, holding Slater in check with a commanding arm bar. Slater escapes but Zack hits the ropes and puts Heath out of the ring for a spell. Back inside, Ryder keeps it up until Slater gets a lucky break and dumps Ryder outside.
WWE takes a short break and when the action resumes, Slater is giving Ryder the business on the mat. He stays in control for a long stretch but can't put Zack away with a pinfall. There's a lot of discussion by the announce team regarding Hornswoggle's role as "The Gator" during this match. Ryder slows Slater's momentum with a move off the ropes and delivers a flurry of offense, capped off with a flying dropkick but he runs into a superkick from Slater and the direction of the match shifts again. Ryder hits a quick suplex and runs in for the roughrider but Slater counters with a powerbomb and a cover. Ryder kicks out again. Heath goes up top to finish things and Ryder grabs the rope to knock him from his perch. One roughrider later, Ryder finally gets the pin. This was a really good one.
Result: Zack Ryder defeats Heath Slater via pinfall.
Naomi vs. Cameron is touted as the show's main event and then recaps roll. We revisit Monday Night Raw's Ambrose/Cena alliance and witness the Brothers of Destruction DVD trailer. Zack Ryder is interviewed back stage and says "The Ryder Revolution" is about to take over WWE. Next up, WWE re-racks the Big Show/Russian flag debacle and then we're treated to an encore showing of The Rock's appearance on Monday Night Raw. Then it's back to the ring 'cause it's go time.
Naomi vs. Cameron
The announce team talks up the Total Divas drama and Cameron admires herself in the mirror well after the bell rings. Naomi takes the fight right to Cameron and they lock up but Cameron bails when Naomi starts to get the better of her. When she heads back in, Cameron lands some shots on Naomi on the apron to gain the advantage. She then works Naomi over on the mat until Naomi breaks free and hits a chinbuster off the ropes. From there, it's almost all Naomi as she hits the "rear view" and gets the pin.
Result: Naomi defeats Cameron via pinfall.
To close the show, Superstars recaps the 3-on-1 handicap match from Raw, including Ambrose's spot with the hot dog cart and his scuffle with Cena. Was Cena busted wide open after that one? Nope, it was just ketchup.
