Why The Rock Having A Match At WrestleMania 31 Is Unlikely
With The Rock's recent WWE return and tease of an upcoming match with Triple H, rumors have circulated regarding the possibility of the two squaring off at WrestleMania 31. Given The Rock's 2015 schedule, a WrestleMania appearance seems unlikely.
Furious 7 releases just five days after WrestleMania, in what is expected to be a major blockbuster. He'll be handling a ton of promotion for the film as Universal Pictures looks to build on the $788 million that Fast & Furious 6 earned.
Vince McMahon's unexpected return this week also compounded the WrestleMania rumors, as last year a planned storyline involving Vince McMahon feuding with The Authority ended up being nixed. The Rock was the company's back up plan if Steve Austin couldn't be involved, but the angle was abandoned.
It's unlikely that Universal Studios – or the studios for his other projects – would want him wrestling at the event. A major factor in the situation is The Rock's torn adductor at WrestleMania 29, which prevented him from several media obligations for Pain & Gain, including the movie's premiere. The film was still a financial success, earning $86 million to its $26 million budget, but movie studios would prefer to have their stars ready for interviews and show appearances.
In addition to Furious 7, The Rock stars in disaster film San Andreas, which will be released in May. He's also set for the HBO series Ballers, TNT reality series Wake Up Call, and the upcoming Shazam film.
