UFC Releases Five Fighters, Conor McGregor - Jose Aldo Delayed, Ronda Rousey - Cyborg Note

- Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh spoke to NewsTalk Breakfast this week, and said the originally planned May date for a Jose Aldo-McGregor fight has been moved back.

"It's not 100-percent yet. There was talk of a May date. It may now actually be later in the year," Kavanagh said. "I get a lot of tweets and messages, people wanting to book their flights. I would just say hold on, hold on until the UFC officially announces. But it does look like it'll be later in the year."

McGregor moved up to #3 in the UFC Featherweight rankings this week.

- The UFC released five fighters this week, after all of them lost consecutive fights. Leading the pack was light heavyweight Igor Pokrajac, who was a veteran of a dozen UFC fights. He's joined by Rodrigo Damm, Sean Soriano, Tom Niinimaki, and Mike Rhodes.

- The two biggest names in women's MMA will be competing on the same weekend in the same town as Cris Cyborg has been announced for the February Invicta card, held the night before UFC 184, co-headlined by Ronda Rousey.

The booking has fueled speculation that the UFC may be trying to set up a bout between the two. Cyborg had planned a move to 135 pounds, but abandoned the move weeks ago. Ronda Rousey formerly competed at 145 pounds but dropped to bantamweight following Cris Cyborg being leveled with a one year suspension in 2012.

Cyborg will face Invicta FC mainstay Charmaine Tweet, and Rousey will face top UFC contender Cat Zingano. Both fights will take place in Los Angeles, February 27-28.
