UFC Title Fight Is Off, Controversy Over Anderson Silva Knockout, UFN Drug Test Results
- After being almost universally panned for attempting to book a third straight UFC Welterweight championship bout featuring Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks, it seems the UFC is thinking better of it.
The company announced last night that former champion Johny Hendricks will be taking on Matt Brown at UFC 185 in March. Champion Robbie Lawler is looking to take some time off, as he had a busy 2014. Hendricks, not wanting to wait, accepted the bout with Brown.
The title shot had originally been promised to Rory MacDonald, who is now rumored to face Hector Lombard. When a fan criticized UFC President Dana White about the call to book Hendricks/Lawler again, White asked fans what they wanted. He was bombarded on Twitter with responses almost unanimously opposing the immediate trilogy.
- Some good news for the UFC, as the UFC Fight Night 58 drug tests all came back clean. The December 20 event saw Lyoto Machida dominate CB Dollaway in Barueri, Brazil.
- Anderson Silva made headlines this week when a video allegedly featured the former UFC Middleweight champion knocking a training partner out in a sparring section.
As it turns out that wasn't the case, as a longer video showed the partner continuing. The teammate, Douglas Moura, cleared the air Wednesday, saying he was just "dizzy"
"I wasn't out, I was just dizzy. I wasn't out," Moura told MMA Fighting. "Right after that, I recovered, got back up and we continued training. Nothing happened. No big deal."
Moura pointed the blame at Globo, who edited the clip.
